Active steering on M cars?
I had brief experience in the past with 135 equipped with active steering and I was dissappointed with the experience. Too soft and lacks connection.
Do you guys know if active steering on M cars is any different? Those of you who went to Germany for the first drive event, your comments would be appreciated. |

I am not aware that active steering is offered for any M car.

One point of interest with respect to steering on the 1M -- AFAIK, it has a similar set up to the well-received steering system of the e9x M3. It's a quick 12.5 ratio and requires less effort than the typically heavy steering of latter day BMWs.

I can "name that tune" in three notes!!! Razor sharp! (that's two words, and three notes on a piano, for those playing along at home.) I was very impressed with the steering feel on and off center. I own an e30 m3 and steering feel is great but the ratio of turns lock to lock leaves a lot be desired hence many people swapping in e36 and z3 racks in e30s. The 1M turned in far better than my car with the z3 rack modification and also was much sharper just off center. |

That's good to hear!
What about effort, is it much lighter than typical 1er? Quote:

Some reviews of M3 mention servotronic as the weakest link in otherwise great car. Saying that even in sport mode it does not provide much feedback.
This is rather critical for me as I simply love steering feel on 1 and 3 series cars. |
