If you're on a list for the 1M but unable to get one, which car will you get?
I think the title question is rather straight forward, but I'd like to hear from folks that actually have deposits down and are mentally/financially committed to the 1M. If you're unable to get it because of lack of allocation, will you go ahead with a purchase of different BMW?
Here's my situation: About 1.5 years ago, I started getting interested in a new car, and the first few details of the F30 started to leak out. I'm pretty sure it will turn out to be a fine car. Around 6 months ago, when more concrete info about the 1M was made available, it really caught my attention, and I began to revisit my priorities. Since I have an acceptable daily driver that I can keep for commuting, I thought that a more fun coupe would make more logical sense. So, of course I'm really excited about the 1M, and have a deposit down at a large dealership. I can be patient, and would really prefer an October production/ED. I think I probably have a >50% shot of getting a 1M, however I've really had to start thinking about what I will do if I'm told I can't get the 1M. I have no immediate plans for the track, this is more of a weekend car. I only want a new car, used is not an option for me. I've broken it down to 3 choices/scenarios, what do you think? 1) 335is: I have ran all the numbers, and this car (optioned out like I want) would come in at the same price as the 1M assuming heavy ED discounting vs. ED MSRP of the 1M. So price difference is a non-factor. The nice thing about the 335is is the availability of DCT, which I would really like. I don't mind 6MT on the 1M, but the inclusion of DCT is a strong driver for me. Con - older body style, however we're 2 years away from the F32, and maybe even 3+ years before any special "IS" version or M3. Con - kind of a "pseudo M". Pro - could be fun as hell because of the massive torque. 2) E90 M3: I'm pretty conscious of money, and the price of the 1M is where I'd like to stay. However, I might be able to squeak in the E90 M3 for $10K more than what I expect to pay for the 1M. Again I'd chose DCT, and options like Nav/convenience. Con - E90 is ending production in 10 months, and I really like all of the new features and styling on the newest F10/F25/etc. that I have seen. Con - that $10K difference is really more than I feel comfortable spending. Pro - it's a frickin' M3! 3) 2012 F30 or 2013 F32: I bet the new 335i sedan will be sweet, but it's not really the same beast as the 1M. Waiting two more years for the F32 would be really tough for me. When you got that "new car fever", waiting 2 years is an eternity. Probably the stock F32 would be better than 335is? What else are you guys considering? |

Forgot to mention:
4) 135i w/DCT. Last on my list, but not because it's a bad car. The price is great, and can get DCT, however it's not going to be as fast as the 335is, and the style of the non-M E82 is my least favorite of current BMWs. Also, it's very near the end of its production run, so I imagine the replacement will be better/more advanced. However, there is no guaranty that DCT will be offered in the 1/2-series going forward. I understand the ZF 8HP is one heck of a transmission and might (?) make the DCT superfluous. |

Considering I have been interested in this car for years and have had a deposit down for several months, if I cannot get a 1M then I won't be getting another BMW full stop.
I would just hope there were enough Audi RS3s left or C-Class coupe. I can't believe some of the info coming through only recently regarding the allocation/production of the 1M. Absolutely disgraceful stuff from BMW. |

What else to get, difficult question. I most propably stick with my MK5 GTI, since there is nothing on the market which lights my fire at the moment, apart from the 1M. RS3, definitely not for me.
Excactly my thoughts here. Buying a car is supposed to be fun and not a pain in the arse. |

Its not a slam. Just saying, this is the type of M that I have wanted since an E36/E46 M3. If I can't get one, then I guess I will have to wait. I want an M with a straight 6 and a manual trans and nothing else will do!

Dude.... get a grip..... we all know how you feel. But from what I have read, no one has told you that this car ABSOLUTELY will not ever be available via military sales.... it's not currently available and things may change down the road a piece. Do we really need to hear you whine about this until November? I hate to add you to the list of BLUE and DCT folks... but you are quickly heading there in my book. In the meantime... Buck up!

I have a pretty eclectic list of backups.
1. Audi TTRS. Not a hairdressers car anymore. Bummer no DSG for the US 2. e92/90 M3 DCT I had a 08 and loved it. Sold it to buy my house. V-8 is intoxicating. 3.Ford Shelby GT500 Kind of the odd ball in the group. Handles well and again that v-8 sounds amazing.

I'm leaning towards a Z4Mcoupe or a E92(through military sales)

Options I'm considering:
1. Used E46 M3 2. Used Cayman S 3. New Mustang 5.0 (my wife still says no on this one ) 4. New X1, if it ever comes to the states 5. Keep my crappy Civic and my money BMW priced me out of the 1 series with the two price hikes over the last year. It's not that I can't afford it, I just don't think the 1 is worth what they're charging for the 2012 models. |

No worries dude, just been dealing with an extra dose of the bitter this week, lol.
Now that I've gotten most of the sand out of my lady-bits I'll pretty much just keep the MSP comments in the MSP thread. But on the other hand, yes, I'll keep posting periodically about the MSP simply to keep it visible. It's my opinion that "out of sight, out of mind" is how BMW left us out of the equation in the first place
