I can't speak for everybody here in the USA but, here in Colorado, only one dealership is taking deposits and they have no clue of when they will take delivery of any cars. Other dealerships either have no clue about the existance of this car or dont have enough information on it to even take deposits

I am glad I don't live around one of those dealerships. My CA emailed my completed build sheet last weekend.

I have started doing research in Florida: Ft. Lauderdale dealer had 3 people with deposits, and the two Tampa area dealers I talked to were also taking deposits and had 2 and 4 people already on list. I have my deposit with one dealer already, but was wondering if I should hedge my bets with another dealer. I don't know about other people's experiences, but the three times in my life I have put deposits for BMW cars, including this one, they have never actually charged my card, hence there would be no cost in having multiple deposits.

Which dealer are you working with?

My dealer absolutely charged my card for my deposit. That better mean I'm getting a 1M

I've had a $1000 deposit down since 9/5/10 (right after I got back from the M Experience in France and saw the glimpse of the fender of one).

I have the first allocation at the dealer - and I hope he gets the allocation!

My dealer just confirmed that I'll get mine in week 21 (end of May). Should be definitely (at least I hope).

I guess you'll have to give them just a little more time, lets say 2 weeks?

Seems like it takes some time. I've ordered mine 24th of January and got the delivery date today.

Thanks.

That's good to know. Keep my fingers crossed I should hear something by 8th March using your timeline!

BMW of Alexandria (VA) took my deposit in January but did NOT charge my card and wants to wait until the end of March to choose specs for my order (translation, nothing is finalized, no price has been settled, no car has been ordered).... yet they swear I'll still get my car in May in the first allocation in the mid-Atlantic region.... Does this sound fishy to anyone else?

Maybe I should look into hedging my bet at another dealership too...

I guess every dealer is different, but my dealership definitely charged my card for $1K, with no promises regarding when I could get the actual allocation/order. However he did put my specs in the ordering system... which is somehow different from actually placing the order.

The dealer said refunding it at any time would not be a problem. Should I ask them to pay me interest on my deposit?

When he put your specs in the ordering system he was requesting an allocation of the car from BMW. This is what my CA did with me over the phone.
