Avg. 60 Units/Month Confirmed...Screenshot
My dealer just reached out to me with a screenshot from a BMW wide tele-conference they just finished. I've included the screenshot below. Against my better judgment, I decided to put a $1K deposit down for spot #1 after seeing this info. Not sure if I'll go through with the purchase since I will be leasing the vehicle, so it depends on the rates. However, I figured I'd at least get on the list for now so I can make the decision later.

You did the right thing.
I put my deposit down back at the start of September as soon as I heard the rumours of limited production. Had nothing to lose as it was refundable. From my discussions with several UK dealers, it was a very wise decision. Audi RS3 is even worse over here, over 350 of the 500 cars spoken for though orders have been taken since December. |

Yeah..i was hesitant initially since I was under the assumption it would not be limited production. I didn't want to limit myself to paying MSRP for a car that might not be limited. Now, I'm thinking it's worth the deposit.

This is impossible. Remember Dr. Segler said no limited production.

So... eight months of production April - November times 70 (to overestimate) cars a month = 560 cars!!! Maybe 650 if we include December and a few extra. This means some people are going to be left empty handed. I'm glad I have my deposit down already.

keeping it : I choose to believe that 60 cars/month as an average US qty indication is a rather harmless kind of 'limited', compared to a preset quantity limited total production run, which BMW never communicated.
- "2700 cars global"/"1000 US Cars" -> A number needed so that the production and sales management staff has a number to plan with. If needed adjustments are made after the first couple of months of order intake. - "difficult to get" = a relative statement - "limited production" = true compared to most of the higher volume models and not strange for this kind of awesome niche market product but for sure a relative statement when not combined with a qty. - "developed new this, new that" = possibly existing parts that have been confirmed by engineering to work with this new car ) Marketing communication is mostly about the power of suggestion, and IMO BMW is not the worst at it with its campaign for this car ... |
