Are there any paint experts out there who would know if white can easily be painted over? I'm thinking of... blue?! ;-)

You can paint any color over any color.. there is a process of stripping and priming before final coating.

They dont just spray blue over the white glossy finish.

Ok. LOL thanks Papethova. Wasn't sure if white would have to go thru the same process of stripping and priming. Sounds like a big job, especially if panels are removed.

There will be a Black 1M at the Welt from March 2nd until the 15th. Then BMW will show the VO car. I will try to get down there and snap a few pics.

For enough money, BMW will paint the car any color you want.

Except this one. The word is no individual colors on the 1M.

I was told by my dealer that if I laid out 3-5k they'd paint it at the factory. Could he be full of crap? I guess.

Based on comments made by Scott26/Herr26 (the BMW marketing insider) I believe your dealer is off the mark. Scott has stated that individual colors will not be available for the 1M (I'm too lazy to search for the quote, perhaps somebody else can provide a link).

Yes, I remember Scott26 saying the same thing. The Exclusive program will not apply to the 1M.

Even IF BMW did offer other colors thru Exclusive... do you really think that many people would pony up the $5K extra for the color of their dreams? No.

Talk to your dealer, I told mine that I wasn't really happy with the colors offered and if there was any way to do color selection like with the 6 series individual custom packages they were doing last year. He told me that for a price, I could get the car in any color BMW uses. I balked at 3-5k and told him I could get it done at a local shop probably cheaper. He countered with, "Who do you want taking your car apart and painting it, the factory or a paint shop?"

I've since decided that I'll go for the VO, but if you've got the money and really really want another color, you can always try this. It's my understanding that if you are having a car built to order, nothing is off limits if you're willing to pay through the nose for it.

EDIT: He could have been BS'ing me, they could have taken my money then had it painted locally and pocketed the diff. *shrug*

This would have to be done via BMW Individual. He is not full of crap, but is ( for the moment) misinformed, and assuming that ordering the car via BMW individual is possible, which it currently is not available

Love the sharpie !
For those that feel stitching should MATCH, you probably need to go to school on STYLE. The idea of things Matching should be out of your head shortly after getting out of Garaninals. Black and white are neutral colors, therefore ANY color (including orange) goes with them. Then of course there are complementary colors... for example the complementary color of orange is BLUE. These combination of these two intensifies both.. apparently an idea that the Broncos (Denver and Boise State) as well as Florida Gators are aware of. So for all the hopeless BLUE fanatics, the orange striping would actually go quite well.

Skyphab. go to your room. Stat. And don't come out til you've read this. http://www.menshealth.com/style/color.php
