TINTS! help with % please

hey guys, i have a jet black m3 with black interior and i want to put some tints on the car bc its just too clear and transparent without them. But, i dont want dark tints but rather a light understated tint where you can still see inside. i want something pretty subtle and not "blacked out-ish"
what % tint do you guys recommend i go with ? 45% 50%
if you have pictures of light tints please post or direct me where to look
thanks in advance

50% all around is subtle, but effective. Be careful not to go too dark on your jet black/black as the tint will appear darker.

To me 50% looks like there is no tint at all. With 30%, you'll notice the tint and still be able to see inside. I'm not sure if that's quite what you want either though. Something in the middle might suite you if you can find it, between 30 and 50%. Best option is to go to a good tint shop and look at their selection. I think you'll like a 35 or 40%.

Here's what 35/50 looks like, so you can compare the two. Taken on a rather overcast day. Black interior, sunroof closed.

Actually I just got my e90 so it doesn't have any tint on yet. It's not the best pic either. So that's what 95% tint looks like (5% for the glass). I've had everything from 50 to 10% though on various cars and have been trending towards darker, so perhaps I'm a little bias. But I've always regretted not going darker with every tint

All the best...

that 30%, can still see inside, but dark enough to spice it up, I'm happy with it.

Thanks JtBlk. Clean/classy was what I was looking for, instead of limo/gangster (<10%). You should probably also consider if heat/UV rejection is part of your tinting goal ($$$ ceramic films).

My 35% on the back portion is not too dark at night. Very similar to the various factory tints on SUVs and vans.

You may want to do some searching about "tint scratching" and www.tintprotector.com I haven't installed it, but I also haven't rolled down my windows yet!

Mine are ceramic and like 67% heat rejection or something like that. I also did the front (I know its illegal) at 60%, but that was mainly for the heat and UV rejection, not for the look. I'll try take some pics of how the tints look at night. Also, the guy I did it with said he would not remove the door panels to install the moleskin, and to tell you the truth, there are a lot of things I would love to do to my car, but haven't cause I don't wanna remove panels or trim or dashboard etc. I haven't noticed any scratches yet, and I've rolled my driver's side down a bunch, we shall see what happens.

hey thanks so much for the advice and info, much appreciated. i agree with you about not wanting to remove panels and things like that, i feel like thats just wrongggg and worry the tight original fit of things just wont be the same after (rattle noises).

Kyoshi71 thanks for posting, can you please put up some more pics of your m3 i want to see the 50% tint better, bc from the looks of it thats what i want, looks really transparent with the right amount of tint.

ps- do some tints come with a more "flat/matte" kind of finish and other more like true glass? i think i like the glassy finish tints more..

..
I have mentioned this ad-nauseum on other threads that I had to remove my Huper Optik because my Comfort Access and AM radio went to shit with it on. Because the tint on the rear window slides down past the rear deck, I didnt want any goop from the film left on the glass. Actually, my tint guy, Lorenzo, who only does top-notch work, wanted to take the rear deck out to do the job properly. Being the anal retentive idiot that I am, I explained the situation to my dealership (Hassel BMW) and they offered (free of charge) to have their interior guy take the rear deck out for me, store it safely at the dealership and re-install it when the tint job was finished. Pretty cool huh?

kyoshi71 thanks so much ur the man!
these are great pics...i see the 50% much better now, and the variations in lighting are so helpful. so are you happy with the 50%? do you wish they were lighter or darker???

not going to lie, even the 50% in the very first picture looks dark, i mean you can barely even see inside. how is it at night?

i think 50% is thw way to go...maybe even 55-60%??
