SSK in 1M?
It had been posted the 1M will have the same transmission apart from the flywheel, dry sump and the clutch. Does anyone know if it will be the SSK version or the standard one?

Can you measure the shift gates>? BMW performance short shift kit on a m54 135i measure 50mm's from 1st to 2nd gears. 80mm's OE. 70mm's for a N55 135i. Thanks |

I don't think the 1M has the short shift kit. |

Btw... when I drove "Specter88"s 120d his car had a very short throw shifter from the factory. On his DIESEL!!! Seems like it was way shorter than my car's 80mm throws. And we know the '11's have a 70mm throws. So... perhaps BMW just stuck with the '11's shorter throws. I think the BMW Perf SSK is VERY short throws - and you would notice those - crisp, bang bang, shifts. Dackel |

Gabe over at bimmerfile also says that the 1M comes with the same shift mechanism as the 135i (but with the E46 ZHP shift knob). According to him, the ssk may be made available as a dealer-installed option.

I think the SSK will be one of my 1st upgrades. I drove the 135 with all of the BMW performance upgrades including SSK at the BMWCCA O'fest at Road America last year and the shifting was very smooth and positive. Much better than my Z4M roadster.

WoW! Really? On my old e36 I installed the shifter pivot/arm from a Z4M... that make the shifts soooo short! It was like a bolt action rifle. Very precise. Dackel |

I wonder if it can be port installed or PCD installed like other parts.

It would be sad if the shifter mechanism is exactly the same as the 135i. I find it very sloppy, long, and mushy. Kinda like throwing a hotdog down a hallway LOL
Miss a short throw that feels notchy, and has a gated, crisp and firm feel.

My S2000 had the best factory shifter, crisp and firm. My E46 M3's shifter was a little better with the ZHP kit, but it was also very forgiving. The stock broomhandle shift knob sucked.
