Unhappy 2006 Z4 3.0si automatic - question

Although I am an experienced sports car driver (both stick and automatic) it's barely possible to not make the car jerk forward when you take off from a stop sign. Is this abrupt engagement of the automatic transmission on purpose to create the impression of performance or is my tranni screwed up? Or might it just need to be serviced?

still. I have to very gently hit the throttle, especially when the car is still crawling. otherwise it jumps as if the tranni was in sports mode or something (when its not).

We could always meet up somewhere and compare your car and mine. I have a 06 si with steptronic. Has the car been modded in any way?

Lurch forward at dead stop

I may have the same problem.
Kinda embarrassing.
In fact, even my wife called me on it....with a look...like, what are you DOING?

Maybe I need to put the key in the ignition and turn to the first stop for 20 seconds to rid the ECM of the "prior" driving memory. Think that will help?

My 3.0si is a tiny bit jumpy off the mark, but I always assumed that it was just a character trait of the car; I don't find it troublesome.

Re the automatic transmission - can you slip it into manual mode while you are driving? So far, I've had the car stopped before slipping the gerabox into Manual, and then driving off.

Cheers!

3.0si automatic manual mode

I pull the shift level on my automatic to the left anytime anywhere.
It shouldn't hurt anything.
You do the same thing when you use the paddle shifters...you are putting the trans in manual mode on the fly.

I may be imagining things but it seems that this just might have solved my lurch problem. I will monitor this next week and see if the lurch comes back.
Thanks!
