135i Headlights
I was wondering if there is any way to change my headlights for ones that don't have the orange part for the turning signal on the side and what would be the best angle eye bulb replacement to make them bluish white like the new 5 and 3 series'?
Thanks

The 'orange thing' is the reflector - and in North America it is required to be legal. You will find that the turn sugnal bulb is silver in color but amber when it blinks. Euro headlights are allowed in Canada but are not legal in the US. Even if they were, you would have to spend about $2,200 plus labor to have them replaced.

While technically illegal, I don't know of anyone who has ever been ticketed for it, though the car may fail state inspection if it's particularly rigorous. NJ state inspections only check emissions now, for example, so you could get away with having clear markers and likely not get caught.
But Lester's point about the price is accurate. Unlike on other models with the amber indicator on the bumper, it's part of the headlight assembly on the 135i. You'd have to replace both assemblies with matching LHD assemblies from Europe to get rid of it. They're over $1000 each. |

Pretty much just have to live with it, buy expensive euro lights, or go for an aftermarket headlight solution.

You can purchase painted headlight covers for the side or tint them with a vinyl overlay.
For the angel eyes, there are several options out there depending on budget, color and output. The cheapest option is a hyperwhite replacement like the Xenesis or GP Thunders. These are blue coated bulbs that will match the OE output but not be as pure white as the newer models. For color output, I suggest an LED replacement like the WeissLicht LED Angel Eyes. These are direct LED based plug and play replacements that are error free and will give you that color. However, they will not match the OE brightness. For that, you will need to do an HID kit however I find them to be far too bright for an angel eye application. |
