Fuel additive boost octane
Yo Zedders
I 'd like to know if anyone tried octane booster additives in the Z4. We only have 95 octane and BMW recommends 98 octane so I got this Torco octane booster. But before I chuck it in the tank I want to get some opinions first... http://torcoracefuel.net/pro-accelerator.html Do you think it may cause any kind of damage? It surely will add power output, we tried this stuff in my buds 350Z and now it's standard addition when he fills up his tank. You can feel the difference and the engine does run cooler. What do ya think? |

I'm thinking it's more of a placebo effect than anything else. Unless the engine is designed to recognize higher than necessary octane and take advantage of it, it's of no use.
Octane doesn't add power, by the way. It's actually less dense when it comes to energy than low octane gas. What it does is not detonate quite as early (in terms of pressure). This means you can run higher compression without knocking. Of course, this normally requires a tune. I'm not familiar enough with the S54 ECU to know if it's capable of adjusting on the fly to something like that, but I'm guessing no. |
