BMW Station for Apple iPhone & BMW Link App
Am I the only one who's really excited about this?
s a non-iDrive owner, I am very interesting in this new integration of the iPhone to the car. I truly believe this where the future of Car Navigation is going. I would love to get more info about which car and year this will retrofitable to, and how this is all going to work. bmw.com alleges this is coming in March 2011. Can't wait!

I think it looks stupid, and cheap. I am all for smartphone integration, but the screen is too small and the fact it clips in scares the crap out of me. I really hope they thought that part through and really secure it. In the event of a collision, the phone can instantly be turned into a very dangerous projectile. The screen is also to small for me.
It is a very valiant effort on BMW's part to integrate our mobile devices, but I highly doubt anyone will buy a BMW just for this. If anything, its a way for them to make a quick buck out of people who would normally order "stripper" cars. |

yup... it looks freakin ghetto... if bmw's gonna waste time and effort to create a ipod/ipad mounter, they should instead researcher how to have touchscreen idrive... that would be way cooler and more legit than this ugly thing...

My car is hardly a stripper car. If I ordered my car without iDrive, it was not because I couldn't afford it. It was because I didn't want it. I actually think the current generation iDrive is nicely done. However, I didn't want it for 2 reasons: 1. I don't like the "second hump": I think it is poorly integrated in what is otherwise a clean and sporty looking dash 2. Embedded navigation gets obsolete very quickly. I plan to keep my car for a while. When I need Nav, I used my Garmin. Provided the BMW Station for Apple iPhone is nicely integrated with the non-iDrive E9X dash, I think it is going to be great (that's still a question in my mind: Where will be the recommended install location). And the iPhone cradle actually looks like a very nice design. We'll see. Still excited!

Frenchie, agree with what you say, esp about obsolescence, but the iPhone screen from that distance is way too small. Plus I seriously doubt how good the integration will be.

someone on this forum had a great installation option with his Garmin GPS on a non-idrive car. it looked fantastic, I'll try to find a pic for you.
It looks like what you're buying here from BMW is just a mounting solution. |

Nice idea, but it wouldn't work for me... I have a red carbon fiber case on my iPhone 4 (see pics below...) and it would be too cumbersome to have to remove it out of the case each and everytime to mount the iPhone in the holder...

The site now says Summer 2011. Any worthwhile info on this would be much appreciated.
