Suspension or brakes creaking?

I noticed that there is a creaking sound when I hit the brakes but only at low speeds when my car is crawling. It seems much more pronounced when I'm on an incline. I don't even think it happens at all on flat ground. The first time I noticed it was when I was backing out of my garage, which is on an incline. It sounds like a high pitched creaking.

Any idea what this could be?

I figured I'd ask before I bring it into the dealer so they don't have to spend forever trying to diagnose it if I have an idea of what it might be.

Probably just the brake pad deposit on the rotors? My car started having these sounds after a track day. It only does it at like <10 mph with light braking. "Brembo squeal"?

Hmm, interesting. Yeah it's only at low speed. Does that mean I'm driving my car too hard?

hahaha nah, it's perfectly fine. These cars are meant to be driven hard, 24/7
As long as your brakes work properly, I wouldn't worry. I know people that would kill to get that Brembo squeal sound lol..

Lol I just feel like a douchebag sitting at a light making all that racket. It's so high pitched. Hopefully it doesn't bother the dogs haha.

Whenever mine starts squealing, I either hit the brakes a bit harder, or let go altogether. I find that it only squeals when the pads barely touch the rotors anyhow, so it's only a very minute part of the time

Hm, mine only squeal on the first 10 or so minutes of the drive(in the morning usually). I guessed that it's just mildew buildup on the rotors.

Put some anti-squeal compound on the back of your pads next time you install 'em.

I've noticed this happening as it's started getting colder.

+1, I use the blue spray on stuff from permatex every time I put new pads on and I have not had any squeeling since. I use it on my bikes as well and it works great. JUST DONT PUT IT ON THE PAD SIDE..

Mine does it too if I'm braking lightly. My bike also does it (brembo's). I've grown used to the squealing. When I discovered my M was doing it, I was delighted!

+1. i've also begun to notice a very high-pitched squeal when coming to a complete stop with featherlight braking.

Perhaps it has to do with the hill assist feature.

sorry but that to me is NOT the solution i'd go for, that stuff will only attract dirt and other crap into your brakes.

try rebedding the brakes...

Not quite on topic....
I would highly recommend that you have the brakes flushed with new fluid
(not at the dealer, they cheat)

I flushed mine after I brought it home and could not believe the milky crap that came out of the brake lines.
It was disgusting!!

Sorry Dubbedown i disagree. Anti-squeal compound does exactly what it says on the tin. It was developed to do that job and applying it properly wont attract dirt.
Been using Copaslip (liquid copper) for 15+ years and works perfectly. Once upon a time you could get anti-squeal shims for this problem, but haven't seen them in years (must be getting old lol).
I think imho some peeps have answered their own question,,,,it's condensation (morning dew) and it's normal this time of the year. Coming from a damp climate used to get this almost every morning, first 10 minutes until get some heat in the discs/ pads. I think if you still have a problem after this, then get some compound on them.

I was talking w/ a BMW tech about this a few weeks back when I brought my car in again for this damn intermittent rubbing noise that I can't figure out. He was saying that BMW is getting quite a few complaints about brake squeal amongst their other models as well. Supposedly, it has to do with the compound for the OEM pads since BMW is trying to squeeze more life out of them.

I've learned to live with it and work around it. I think that, once my warranty is up, I'm swapping out the pads for some Hawks.
