Upcoming Houston Autox

This weekend will be my first one if I go. I never been to one as a competitor or a spectator. Is it ok to go even though I have absolutely no knowledge and just learn as I go.

I have motorcycle helmets to wear as helmets to protect my noggin.

Yes, auto-x is quite informal as auto racing goes. You'll learn about your car as you go (hello, understeer!) and if you want it, someone with more experience can ride with you and tell you where to accelerate and let off, and guide you around the course until you get a little better. Enjoy it, and be prepared to be humbled by G-Stock or even H-Stock cars until later in the day.

I assume your talking about the Houston BMW CCA event at the Houston Police Academy? You should def. come out. No prior experience required. There should be 3 other E86 M Coupes out (Black, Red, Blue) to help you, and all three are approved instructors who can give you a ride along or ride with you. By Sunday, the black one will have probably have T C Kline suspension and sticky Direzza tires, the red one will be stock on all seasons, and the blue one (hopefully the fastest) will be someone in between from a modification standpoint.
As long as your helmet is Snell 2000 or 2005 rated you can bring it. If it isn't rated, than we do have loaner helmets you can borrow for the event.

If you go to the website and look for the autocross section at the top, there is a lot of useful information. When registering, your car would be in "E group".

Look forward to seeing you out there. I'll be running around setting things up, but you'll eventually find me by the blue Coupe, or by the timing equipment.

I have a custom sub box which is contoured to the trunk and realy dont want to spend time taking it out. Im going for the experience and dont care much about weight and time. Is it ok if i leave it in and fill the trunk with tons of pillows and comforter blankets just in case, but i dont think it will budge from its spot.

Without the pillows, is the sub solidly mounted? Under hard braking or a fast lane change would it normally move? The pillows aren't going to be allowed as that is one other thing that would be loose, and could potentially end up in the front seat either as a distraction, or blocking your controls. If you have a custom stereo system that is solidly mounted, I don't see the need to remove it. I would do a quick test to make sure it is solidly mounted.

Good luck. AutoX is a blast and addictive. I recommend removing the sub for the event.
