Proper Trans fluid
I searched through almost every section on here and could not find a straight answer. I also read through my owners manual very thoroughly. If anyone knows the correct weight or fluid type for the 2.5i trans please post it. I read somwhere that our trans use ATF?
I just realized i posted this in the DIY, sorry! |

Every model is different - so I heard, jack up the car, look for the transmission and there is a sticker that tell you what type it is.
I found my sticker but can't find a good price on the fluid. Theres like Esso, Pentosin Its also very confusing because certain fluid that was one certified are no longer - manufacturing formula changes, etc. According to bav auto, your car may uses the Automatic Transmission Fluid - ESSO LT71141 - 1 Liter , needs 5.5 liters.. 21.95 x5. You might need to do more searching and check your tranny before doing your change |

More fluid options
http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-Z4-2.5i...mission/Fluid/ Reference this, there is a green label, yours might be different http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3294 So when I say its confusing, it is.. Valvoline maxlife as of 2008 lists BMW LT71141 or LA2624 On the current website with revision 07/2010 - BMW is not listed anymore http://www.valvoline.com/pdf/Maxlife_ATF.pdf Luckily for us, castrol has a multi import atf fluid http://www.castrol.com/castrol/secti...tentId=7028224 Tech specs : http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp...s_ImportMV.pdf I would use castrol if I can't get the original Last edited by lstratos; 10-12-2010 at 02:17 PM.. |

awesome thanks for the info!! I'll be doing the oil tomorrow anyway so I guess that will be a good time to look for that sticker. I think im going to give the royal purple a shot, and their website has some good info as well http://royalpurple.com/transmission-chart.html
So hopefully my research will match up with what royal purple has to say! |

No label ? Mine looks like this
Click here for larger pic Check here http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=830669 E85 Z4 3.0 from 9/02 production to present Z4 2.5 from 9/02 production to present No subsequent transmission fluid changes are necessary. Never mix any other oil with this transmission fluid when doing repairs or topping up. ESSO LT 711 41, BMW Part No. 83 22 9407 807. Of course I can't vouch for it.. Mine is auto.. assuming you ask about ATF. Mine is shell m1375.4 ATF fluid.
It's probably easier to just take a digital camera and take pics from the bottom from all angles and figure it out on the computer than to stick your head under there. Heres another one http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3294 |
