A/C not cold enough? Here's a mod......

I have read a number of complaints on this forum on owners who think their A/C is not cold enough. Thankfully I live in a moderate climate and am completely satisfied. Here is an intreresting modification I seen on another forum that may help.

If anyone wants to try this modification on your 1-Series - please post pictures with details.

Carbon fiber a/c cover would do the trick for me.

But you don't want to block the cooling vents.

Raine, I'm in Texas and my a/c is great. On really hot days do this:
- shut off far right passenger vent (will increase airflow to center vents)
- shut off auto and press button that restricts airflow to dash vents
- make sure you have recirc button pressed

Ohh, thanks for the advice, this might work.

I usually leave mine on auto and both vents open w/ no recirc.

i usualyl just press max. it overrides everything and forces the vents to be full blast. recirc is what you want because it will start to recirc already chilled air instead of pulling hot air from the outside. Max will set that as well.

Recirc is a must and makes all the difference, unless you have a hot cabin after your car has been sitting in the sun.

Oh ok, I just read somewhere that recirculating too long is a bad idea because you're recycling stale air.

it's only really necessary to drop the temperature to something more bareable. once there, just hit your auto button and you'll stay comfortable.

do you have tinted windows? Black interior?

it might also be worth bringing it up to BMW, your refrigerating system may need to be recharged too. sometimes they leak slightly.

Awesome!

I wonder if that dent happened when he was loading the generator or the AC onto or into the car?

My problem is the vents by the Windows. They are useless and don't direct air towards driver and passenger.

I don't see how it would be worse than driving with no fan on at all -?

This is what I do too. When it gets cool enough, hit it again and everything is back to normal.

Thanks for the advice but I shined a flashlight down the vent and the hole was very small.... WHY?? The car besides performance was designed like crap...
