1M or wait for Audi R4 ?

Just a question to exercise on.. Apparently 2012 is when R4 might hit the markets, or stay as rumor 4ever..

But.. it if it is real... Why a M3 wanna be 1M rather over a R8 wanna be R4 ? LOL

If the R4 is in fact the urQuattro revival, then I must go with the Audi.

sounds like a painful waiting game.... I'm curious if the rumored Audi will be the Quatro concept in Automobile magazine... if it is, I'm all in!!!

Must agree, I do like the look of that urQuattro concept:

Has just enough styling cues from the urQuattro. That was... and still is, a great looking car.

Why even compare? The RS4 would be competing with the M3 in price and size. If you want to play the imaginary comparison game you have to move down to the RS3.

The 1M will not be competing with this Quattro Concept. Audi has said this car will be priced over 100K euros!

Huh

VW has excellent rep across the board.. I previously owned a MKV GTI for 2 years, excellent little car, has its few issues and obviously not as much power as the 1er but it was a fun as hatchback.

The 1M and R4 (when it's released) won't compete on the same level of practicality so I doubt too many people will cross shop on this occasion. The 1M is probably closest to the TT-RS in that both are two door, four seaters with a reasonable boot. Now if the comparison was between the 1M and the TT-RS then I think it would be a 'just' discussion and debate, and you either make your choice on preferring rwd and a bit more practicality over awd and a bit more style.

What do you mean it doesn't exist? Not even concept phase? Even if it doesn't exist yet, or in prototype phase, Baby R8 sounds fantastic.

Should be a great entry level sports car. Not on par with the 135 tho.

Which model would be classed not on par with the 135i?

If the weight does end up close to the suggested 2500lbs then even the humble 1.4FSI with 180hp will be able to accelerate to 60mph in 6 seconds or less and the modest 2.0TFSI with 210hp (probably more by then) will post identical times to a 135i and then go on to whip it's butt in the corners, all this before you consider they might also be giving it the same 2.5TFSI from the TT-RS which could make it almost as quick as an R8v10 in most situations.

Name a car that has hit its targeted weight.

FWD or AWD? And if AWD Quattro or the crappy Haldex version? Positioned below the TT leads me to believe they will de-feature it to create the separation between the two models. A FWD platform may be compelling to some, not me.

Where it will beat the 135i is price.

You may want to read a little closer next time ". Gasoline propulsion would come from a 180 horsepower 1.4-liter TSI unit while the high-mileage option would be the 170 horsepower version of the 2.0-liter TDI used in the TT and the Golf GTD." Nowhere does it mention the use of the 2.0 TFSI.

The idea of a mass-produced twincharged engine is pretty intriguing, but my guess is the power will be a bit underwhelming. Other auto mags are describing it as an improved Miata. It will not compare performance-wise to the 135, nor is it designed to.

I dont see the teasers showing a slight reveal and announcement of the car coming in just under a months time?
Anyway, the 1M will completely bypass the Audi because it will have been discontinued by the time the Audi is launched by late 2012.

BMW's compact sized Z2 Roadster/Coupe due in 2013 could turn out to be the R4's nemesis?

You are talking to the wrong person if you think I don't have pretty good idea as to the engines it will be offered with. Just because that article only mentions these engine choices don't for one minute think it will be that limited.

This might be the first Audi to be offered as a rwd in the lesser models like the 1.4 and diesels while the more powerful models will most definitely be awd and you will most definitely see at least a 265hp top model but believe it will ultimately be offered with the 2.5TFSI from the TT-RS.

Correct, the R4 is more a competitor to the Z2 than anything else. The motoring press view the 1M's main rival as the RS3 but these two cars don't really share the same customer base, one is a coupe and the other a 5dr hatchback. The 1M needs to be compared more with the TT-RS though there will be a price difference between them which in many respects is like comparing an M3 with a Carrera S.

That is pretty high praise in most enlightened automotive enthusiasts' circles. A Miata with a bit more power is sublime.
