M1 look on my 123d (quad exhaust, Schnitzer tuning & splitters, Vorsteiner CF hood)

Until the M1 is out, why not build your own "M1 look"? This is what I did to my 123d:

- AC Schnitzer tuning (240 hp & more torque than a stock 135)
- AC Schnitzer front splitters
- Vorsteiner vented carbon fiber hood
- Quad exhaust

* Cat back exhaust, stage 2 programming to 260 hp, new rims & 19" tires coming soon

Sorry about the quality of the pics - I'll get better ones up soon. These were taken with my phone.

The only thing I thing I'm a bit disappointed with is the fact that the hood vents are not too noticible. We couldn't paint them black (or keep them unpainted carbon fiber) as the hood & vents are all one piece moulded CF and you would see the edge of the paint. The vents on the new M3's are inserts, where you can see a clear gap between the hood & the vent & thus can be painted a different colour.

What do you think?

SWEET !!! Congrats on the nice ride....

Now a drop and some rims and you're settled !

2 questions:
What quad exhaust did you use for the 123D? Curious to see what the options are...
And what is this "stage 2 programming"...? IS this also from Schnitzer...?

Great look. I wanted the 123d here in the US. But took the 128i instead. It is a cool car, and the motor is very nice. I just liked the idea of a clean diesel that gets the economy too. How is yours with all the mods in terms of efficiency? Hard to believe it has more power than a 128!

Looks like inside performance quads to me. Who told you that you couldn't leave the vents bare cf? It's the standard look with that hood...

Sorry I haven't been back to the forum in a while. I've been spending my time on the Aussie site lately & haven't checked!

Yes, rims & lowering are coming next.
The V hood is one solid piece with no separate vent pieces, so leaving them CF would mean the paint would have to stop somewhere. With not even a solid right angle to use, you cannot clearly stop the paint at a proper edge, so it would look very amateur in my opinion. You would have to create an edge & then feather the paint so it was graded down to the CF and even then it may still look weird. If you look at the new M3 vents, you'll see that they are insert pieces which are distinguishable from the rest of the smooth flowing hood, thus they can be painted a different colour.

The quad exhaust components were from the UK, but put together & finalised by my mechanic here in Australia.

Yeah, the stock 123d has more torque than a stock 135, but with tuning it bumps it up over & above. The Schnitzer stage 1 ecu programming takes the HP to 241 from 200 and the stage 2 ecu programming (just available now, apparently) will boost it up to 260 HP - safely.

Cars here in Australia are so damn expensive, though. $80k for my convertible ($70k US) and that is without all the tuning, etc! Sigh...

Awesome, awesome car man...

That's a pretty aggressive hood so leaving the vents black might have been a bit overkill, I like it solid color like that. But then I prefer things a little more subtle.

Anyway, kind of shopping around for a hood (decisions, decisions) how has your experience been with the Vortsteiner? Been looking at the iCarbon and this one as my front runners. The iCarbon would look good with the carbon vents since it has the soft "bump" as opposed to the sharp crease on the Vortsteiner, which if I get I would do like you and paint the whole hood.

I'm loving the exhaust, I'm not crazy about the hood. Car looks way too "riced up" from the front. Just my 2 cents.

experiences

Steve, amazing car man! Exhaust is absolutely great

I have 123d as well and still thinking about ACS ecu1. Can you give me some feedback?

Btw what was your price? Having an offer, 2400 EUR (with extended warranty) and isn't it too much?

thx
