Non USA 135 Prices?

Reading through the thread regarding the M3 owners comments as well as many other threads on this site with regards to other people and other BMW owners constantly putting down the 1 series for its bottom of the line staus and low admission price, I started to wonder if people in other countries seem to run into the same thing as our friends in the US do.?

I am a big believer in the whole "It isn't about how much your car costs, as long as it is the car that makes you happy" way of looking at things. I mean one of my best friends drives an 09 Accent hatchback and he loves it. I would never consider this car, however I think no less of him for buying it as he seems content and doesn't try and compare it to my car in any type of negative way.

In Canada, we seem to get ripped off on almost everything (Including gasoline even though where I live, we have over 4 refineries within the city limits). Anyways, my 135 came to just under 56K and that's without DCT or NAV. So even to buy a 1 series here you have to make a pretty decent living. Most people I run into seem to accept this and don't even bring up the price standpoint to a 3 series. I looked at a M3 in the US to bring up here before buying the 135 and it starts at only 58K for the coupe. Granted I know that that doesnt include taxes and options and so on, but still.
The difference in price is huge. Myself personally have never come across anyone up here anyways who bashes the car or makes comments about how I am too poor to afford a 3 series. It is kinda nice cause you can mingle with other car people and actually enjoy each others cars. It doesnt seem to turn into a pissing match.

So after that long winded rant, my question is has anyone else in other countries or even in parts of the US never had the whole 1-3 series price compare or performance bashing brought up and people just seem to acknowledge to car for what it is and not how much you paid for it when you could have bumped up to a 3 series for not much more? Also curious to see what the prices for these cars are in other markets BMW is in?

^^ I here you BBK... I refuse to pay more than six figures considering how much these cars are in other countries. Is it because of the Australian tax system or something?

That's rough. I can't believe they charge that much. I heard housing is extremely expensive also down there. Is that true?

i think its got to do with taxes but also that the car companies price their cars according to how many cars they expect to sell.

So prices in the US will always be cheaper than Canada or Australia because they have like 10 times the population.

Yeah apparently we have one of the most expensive real estate prices in the world... which is ridiculous considering how much land we have!

Car prices are expensive mainly because prestige brands can charge whatever they want, we have a 'luxury car tax' which comes in effect when a car is priced over $60something thousand.

Thankfully the 123d is not subject to that luxury car tax because of its efficiency, but still around 70k AUD (~63k USD).

Cheers,
Alf

Same here, only have to convert the AUS$ to the Euro and then you have the prices we pay here. Also without options or any nice packages. No wonder you never see any 135i's here. Almost half of the price we pay for a car here are taxes.

I beg to differ - 135i in oz can be had for less than AUD $72k - brand new incl all on road costs.

Note also, that the so called "standard car" in oz is very heavily optioned when compared to say UK. Standard equipement incl:

Xenon, leather, electric seats, aircon, msport pack, bluetooth, etc just check

http://www.carsales.com.au/car-resea...d=12AA619C2FA0 )

Need to compare apples with apples.

In Holland you don't get xenon, leather, electric seats, aircon etc., all are options. So then I guess cars here are even more expensive than in Australia

Currently living in the US so it's unbelievable how cheap cars are here. Brazil (where I'm from) is terrible, here are some prices in US dollars:

118i hatch - $52,000
135i cp - $106,000
335i cp - $155,000
M3 cp - $228,000
X6M - $268,000 (there's a wait of over 6 months to get these, that's how much they're selling)

and just for shts and giggles some fun ones:

Fiat 500 - $39,000
Ferrari F430 - $780,000 (there is a ridiculous line to get one of these, there's no way you can get one in the near future)

So by moving to the United States I am driving a 135i for the price I would've payed for a 100hp 2 door Fiat 500 over there. God bless consumerism in this country.

edit:
wow this is fun and hilarious to research, here are some more fun ones:

Porsche Panamera Turbo - $420,000
Ferrari F599 GTB - $1,476,000

I think cars over here in Germany cost about 35% more than the US model. PLUS the US models have all the "extras" as standard. Over here you pay, pay and PAY!!! I think Jeremy Clarkson said it right: "Auto companies do not make any money on selling cars... they MAKE IT on selling OPTIONS!!!! lol So true.

Two years ago I saw a nice sedona red 120d e82 coupe. Cloth seats, no roof, xeon, most all the sport goodies... but still no heated seats or sunroof or LEATHER. The sticker price was 45K euros. I think a loaded 135i would be in the mid 50K range. I know M3 sell for over 100k euros over here. Now granted the Germs pay 19% sales tax(MstW) built into those prices but come on!!!

i would gladly pay the premium if we had anything close to your roads. i get a 300hp car cheaper than you but then i can't use 30% of it because of roads, speed limits, cops.... and i could get into other things such as healthcare, public transportation, etc etc....

now being from Brazil, you pay a LOT more (see my post above) and have everything worse than the USA (yes, much worse roads and public services). good thing i'm not there anymore huh haha

Actually I beg to differ.....

If you click on the link 'Price Guide' under the price there is the following information -

Price Guide - refers to the price provided to us by a manufacturer for a vehicle and excludes costs, such as options, dealer delivery, stamp duty, and other government charges, that may apply. Always check the single figure price with the seller of a vehicle before purchasing.

On road is going to be much closer to the figure previously quoted.

Price of a 135i here in the UK is a bit under 31k GBP and that only includes M-Sport pack.... so, no leather, no met paint, no leccy seats, no xenons etc.

At todays rates, that 31k GBP equates to....

48k USD
51k CAN
54k AUS
38k EURO

Hello.

Here in Spain the 1 Series coupe 118d € 27,000, it's a high price for a car, that's the lowest in diesel 143hp. After we have finished the 120D for € 30,000 177hp and 204hp 123D of € 35,000.
There are two in gasoline engines. The 218hp 125i for € 35,000 and the 306hp 135i for € 46,000, a very high price for a car of these characteristics.
Since the 3-series hardly speak, because the cheaper cost of € 35,000 the 320i 170cv, up to € 58,000 the 335i with 306 hp.
There in the United States, it seems that tickled hos S1 135. XD
The main difference is that U.S. gasoline is very cheap, and in Europe diesel is cheaper than gasoline, and most people are looking for a diesel, but some people prefer gas.

Regards and sorry for the English, not my XD
