intake (m3 e92)
What intake setup should I go for. I am looking for a little increased sound and power. Should I do replacement filter and scoops, or afe stage 2 cold air intake, or macht schnell stage 2 intake charge kit? Is there anything else you guys suggest? What do you all think?

The OEM intake on the M3 is pretty good right out of the box. Scoops are not going to add any appreciable ram effect or HP. Most of the scooped-cold air-intake systems with carbon fiber bits are very overpriced and haven't shown decent HP improvements on dyno.
Get a high-flow drop in filter for about a hundred bucks. You'll dfinitely add a few ponies and get a little extra intake noise that we all like. Keep it simple.

i have a question. does changing the filter actually void intake warranty? It's not actually a complete intake overhual with different pipes and parts.
also, there's no benefit for using a scoope+filter combo? |

Say if your car has a bad starter (assuming that you don't know that at that moment in time) and the car won't start, so you take it to the dealership. If they do find the filter, they'll probably make up some kinda story saying something like how the aftermarket filter didn't properly filter the air and let contaminant into your engine blah blah Story short, Just swap on an aftermarket filter and when you gotta take the car in for service (like 1200 mile service or something), swap it back out for the OEM one. It doesn't take that long to change the filter anyway. That's what I've been doing for the past few months btw: No, scoop + filter does not actually add horsepower. If anything, it MIGHT add a nice small noise from the scoop (doubt it, I don't own one anyway so I wouldn't know) or add a hp or two in the high end range. But again, I highly doubt it. |
