disable comfort access

At the risk of being flamed, does anyone know how to disable comfort access so that you have to use the remote? I searched, but couldn't find anything.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to?

It is integrated into the ingition, door handles and trunk lock mechanism. I doubt if you can disable, however you should still be able to use the remote to lock/unlock doors and open the sunroof and trunk.

I asked the same question on my Audi

But discovered Comfort Access is integrated with the car's security system so it can not be disabled without tampering the ignition control.

For the 3 years I had it on my Audi, it wasn't as cool as in the showroom when you have to deal with it in real life.

1. At the car wash, you leave the car and the attendant runs after you saying there is no key.

2. You tell the valet that it is keyless entry but he/she puts the key into the slot anyway.

3. When you need it to work, it doesn't or has a delay so you are wondering, it this comfort access really working?

Comfort Access is great when it works, but only you will appreciate it. People that service your car don't care.

Thanks for the responses. I've been out putting a ton of miles on her. I've only had it for 4 days and I love this f#$*in car. My only concern with the comfort access is if it fails at the worst time, but the remote will suffice. Not a feature I would have ordered new, but it seems to be working just fine on my car. :-)

Wouldn't buy another new car without it.

Love it.

Just hand the valet the key, they can use it like a normal key and never need to know it has CA.

Anybody ever run into a Valet that didn't know you had to first push in the key and then you can pull it out?

Oh dear! Had this so many times it's not funny.

One of the best examples of this was getting a wheel alignment done a few months ago. The owners of the store actually have a 125i as well, but the mechanics had no idea. As i walked out to grab a coffee, one of the mechanics was trying to start my car. And i mean TRYING.. Took him a good 30 seconds of jamming the start/stop button and fiddling with the key to fire her up.

One place I went to dinner, the head waiter paged me to help the valet to stop the car.

This is the same place I told the valet that it is keyless entry and keyless start.

Like I said, comfort access is great for the owner of the car. Not so great for service people who may not know any better.

#3 drives me nuts. I wasn't sure if it was just me, but I can't tell you how many times I've walked up to my car, grabbed the handle, and been greeted by silence. I end up waving my hip around at the door handle like a retard. I'm sure someone things I'm some douchebag BMW driver who is trying to make love to his door handle. I've started pulling the key out of my pocket and using it like a normal key just so I don't have to suffer the embarrassment. The keyless start works reliably enough though, so that's nice.

I love CA and find it weird when I get a loaner without it. The very few times my car hasn't recognized the fob in my pocket, I just rearranged the fob in my pocket & it resolved the problem. I can count on one hand the number of times CA hasn't been recognized by my car.

As a former valet, I can say that those valets are morons. Unless they have never parked a BMW before, they should know how to do that, since they're all the same. Just as they should know that the lock buttons in BMW's are in the middle. You learn things like that pretty quickly on the job. Some valets are clueless though.
