1 yr, 7k miles oil change are 'no more'
Just got back from Braman Motors in Miami and just had to pass this story along. I have owned my 135 now for 1.25 years (8,200 miles) with no indication of needing an oil change. When the guy in the office next to me (with a Mercedes, same age, same miles) told me he got an oil change, I called BMW and said 'yes, come on in". But when I got there and they ran my info, they said I wasn't due for an oil change for another 6,700 miles...a total of 15,000 miles and two years! A new BMW policy says that they will no longer do an oil change at 1 year or 7000 miles. I voiced my Extreme displeasure with the situation! I did not intend to run my brand new 135 with original oil for 2 years or 15,000 miles. When the service guy saw how upset I was, he reviewed the e-mail from BMW and found that it said "As of September 1, 2010". So...if your BMW is 1+ years old and you have over 7,000 miles on it, get your oil change NOW, before September 1. Otherwise, you'll have to wait another 7,000 miles, or, pay for it yourself. Shame on Braman Motors for nearly cheating me out of my first oil change!
BTW...the car Rocks! |

If you have some spare time on the weekends, you could learn to oil change, that way you won't have to be upset anymore!

doing your own oil changes would void warranty? I don't think so.... and you paid for oil changes every 15k. It's been like this since 2006 bro get it straight lol.

Well, when called the first time they said 1 yr or 7,000 miles, whichever came first (that's why I scheduled an appointment). The e-mail I am referring to was shown to me today (Aug 17) by the service rep. I didn't see the date on it.

What? You should get an oil change 1 year or 15K miles for free during the 4 years/ 15,000 miles. Now are you sating this is just your dealer, or country wide?

Correct, 1 year OR 15,000 miles. Starting Sept. 1, 2010 it will only be 15,000 miles, regardless of time.

I called BMW Assist here in Australia to double-check my choice of oil (Mobil1 Gold SuperSyn 0W-40) would be fine for the car when I changed my oil. They said it was fine. How the hell can changing your own oil void warranty? Because that's deceptive conduct and commercial entrapment - forcing further, undisclosed costs to preserve warranty on a good. Please don't make frivolous claims like this one again. It helps nobody. |

Interesting. I paid for my 128i on July 1, 2009 but didn't take delivery until July 21, 2009 because I did PCD. I got a call from the dealer and an email about July 1 saying I was overdue for an oil change. I scheduled it for less than a week later even though it had only been about 3000 miles since my last oil change. This meant 3 oil changes in the first 7500 miles because I had already done 2.
I only plan to drive my 128i about 7500 miles a year (I have a SUV too). I was planning to do it myself at the six month interval and let the dealer do it at the yearly interval. If they are really moving to 15,000 miles, it will probably force me to do a couple before the dealer does theirs. I do not like going over 5,000 miles, even on synthetic. It would be very interesting to see the advisory or for somebody else to report getting the same message from a dealer. Jim

If what you say is true and they are doing away with 1 year free oil changes that is going to suck for me since I only drive 6,000/yr. That would be 2.5 years before I hit 15,000 miles. o_O

even better, I hate taking my car in for service... I feel bad for the poor sap who is going to get my car in 2.4 years with roughly 28,000 miles and having only ONE oil change. lol
