Driving to work this morning...weird noise started...

I was on my way to work this morning when a weird noise started. Got to the I-10 onramp, gave the car WOT through 5k rpm in first, second, and third. When I let off the gas there was a weird noise coming from the rear. My best description of it would be a sound like a chain saw. Got worse through my commute and calmed down a little bit by the time I got to work. I figured maybe the Vorsteiner diffuser in the back somehow got loose and was rattling against the muffler tips. Got to work and visually everything looks normal. Could it be that something has broken inside one of the Dinan mufflers? Again, noise only comes when I am off the gas; it is not audible when I am on the throttle or when the clutch is pushed in. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

The more I think about it I think the issue is (or is from) the Fabspeed high flow cats. I am trying to see if I can have ESS check out the car while I am out of town since they are pretty local to me. I would be surprised if the issue is not from the Fabspeed setup...will hopefully find out soon.

Have contacted Fabspeed and still waiting for a call back. Will be taking it to ESS to have it looked at, though it probably won't be until next week since I am going out of town first thing tomorrow morning.

Could you feel it 'rattle'? I think it might be your HFCs rubbing on the heat shield.

It is not from the heat shield I can pretty much guarantee that. I have had the HFC's now for almost a year and have around 7k miles on them. We took a rubber mallet back then and went to town on the heat shield since our first attempt caused a rattle from the heat shield. I am thinking one of the cats is probably blown or perhaps one of the welds in the Fabspeed pipe has broken(?)...

Cats were fine. Some how one of the bolts that hold the rear differential to the subframe was sheared so the diff was hitting against the subframe under throttle. Had the bolt replaced and all is good. Am slowly starting to unmod the car as I plan on getting into something else late this year or early next. Currently have the Fabspeed setup for sale and also will be removing the H&R springs in a week or so if anyone is interested.

Wasn't the heat shield. This was an initial problem I had when it was first installed and we put the car back up on the lift and pushed the heatshield out of the way with a rubber mallet. That solved any heat shield rattle I was having.
