How long from order to production?
I tried searching but couldn't really find anything so does anyone know how long will it take before I get a production time and then a rough delivery estimate? Is there a post that outlines the steps in production and how long they usually take? I've got my production number (no VIN) and am currently just "on order." My order was placed into the system on Wednesday. Not only am I dying to know myself but I'm selling my current car to a friend that plans on flying out to CA and driving it back to FL (where I moved from) so he's beating me up over when he might be able do that.

For me it only took six weeks. But I ordered mine thru Military Sales and took delivery in Germany. I think it depends on how many "build slots" are open when you place your order.
Good Luck - we all feel your pain! In the waiting game. |

http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep/ Wallenius Wilhelmsen Register on the BMW North America site-one week behind-computer update once a week Most accurate is to contact your sales person who get updated computer read outs The time from scheduled to production to actual production for me was 20 days Once its scheduled for production it takes another 3-6 days before it leaves Leipzig for Bremerhaven. My car has been waiting for a transporter at the port for one week waiting for the Falstaff Once its on the Falstaff it takes 24 days to reach California-from there another few days for prep then off to the dealer. I anticipate picking up my car around Memorial Day. I placed the order on March 23 The two URLs here shows the shipping company and how to track your vessel across the Atlantic through the Panama Canal to your west coast port |

BMW along with all luxury producers are still having a difficult time selling cars. In the U.S. the One series doesn't even crack the 1,000 sales per month. This spring BMW has tried to spark sales with a variety of discounts including offering leather on limited models. During the first few months of 2010 it offered low interest rates and $1500 off on 128 and 135. The company also brought forward the 2011 BMWs 3 Series and 1 Series. For me offering leather is only sweetens the prospect of buying a 2011 vs 2010. Whether it offers leather for the entire model year is problematic for the consumer. Since the company is more liable to use a variety of incentives including cheap leases to compete with Mercedes and Audi. This week the president of Audi USA said that Audi would continue to resist offering discounts of any kind. Ultimately, car selling is one of supply and demand.

I wasn't wondering about the total time, I have a pretty good idea how long it take overall once the build process starts, I was mostly wondering if anyone knew how long it usually takes from the order going into the system for them to actually start on the car.

Id think it depends on your spot in line for production.

Then it took a week to build, and as of Friday was waiting to be released to the carrier (according to the 800 number). |
