Can't get homelink to work.
Hello,
I've tried to get my homelink system to work. I did everything the instructions said, and it will not recognize my remotes. I have an Inellicode gate opener for my gaurd gate and a Genie garage door opener. The homelink will not detect either of these. Am I missing something? Thanks, - Dan

does the homelink program the code IE blink rapidly when the code is accepted? If the code is accepted then you just have to have the garage door opener "learn" the homelink code

call roadside assistance, they can talk you through it. My dad had trouble setting it up on his because of the rolling code setup.

I live in a building with a community garage, and I havent' been able to get mine working either.
On top of that, I think I've screwed up the opener trying. Sometimes the regular remote doesn't work any more no matter how many times it's pressed. Then if I hit the Homelink button on the mirror that I was trying to program, nothing happens, but the next press on the regular remote opens the door. It doesn't do it all the time, maybe one in 8 or 10 trips. I've got to get it figured out though, because it's not just me that's having problems. I saw one of my neighbors have to get out of the car and press the button on the wall the other day. I've got to sneak down there in the middle of the night and get a ladder up to the reciever to see what model it is so I can figure out how to reset it. |

I think that there was a mention of pushing a button on the opener itself, not the remote.

the instructions say to push both in close proximity, and i did. And the light was blinking slowly and did not blink rapidly. Which means it didnt pick up the signal.

The website?
I found the website helpful.
My garage openers have the rolling codes so before the homelink would accept and sync I had to press program on the openers themselves and run back to the car and press the homelink button once more. Check here: http://www.homelink.com/programming/programming.taf |

Still can't get mine to work either. Tried the learning process on the homelink site with no luck.

Dan, I'm having the same problem on mine. My complex has some off-brand opener and I can't find any program button on it (I don't know if it is rolling code or not).
Let me know if you figure it out. |

It took me a lot of trial and error to get Homelink to work in my car. The key was to put one of my garage door opener remotes RIGHT UP AGAINST the bottom of my rear view mirror. It didn't work at all if I held it at the recommended 4 to 12 inches (or whatever it was). Once I got Homelink in the mirror to learn my garage door opener remote, it was a snap to get the actual garage door opener to accept the Homelink in the mirror.

On some openers - make sure that you're close to the actual motor itself rather than just using the remote. Some motors have a link button that lets you sync up with the motor and the car. I had to do that with mine.

Your Homelink system might be bad. Mine worked for about 1 year then just stopped. I am fairly certain there is no signal being transmitted. Resetting doesn't help. All the signals show the code is recognized and stored, but no go. I reset and reprogrammed several times and tried all three buttons. The original battery remote works every time and the Homelink in my nine yr old E46 does as well. I haven't taken it in to the dealer yet.

I am having the same problem. The opener in my building's garage is ancient, this thing has dip switches inside to set the code. Is it possible the homelink is just not compatible with older remotes? The receiver on the door itself looks like its from 1975, no "learn" button on it whatsoever.

Yeah, I tried that, but no luck. I did some searching, and it appears I need a homelink adapter that costs around $60. I'll have to talk to the board and see if they'll allow me to install it in the garage. There are other cars in the garage that I'm sure have homelink units that can't be used either, so it might be worth it.

Homelink Issue: solved
We had trouble getting our homelink to work, too.
The engine has to be running, not just the key in the ignition. Re-set the unit for 20" by pushing down the outside two buttons until the LED flashes rapidly. Then, place the existing remote right next to the controls (not 4-12" away as in the manual. Push one of the homelink buttons at the same time as the remote. The LED will flash rapidly after a few seconds. Done! Homelink only works when the engine is running. Other problems we’re trying to solve (just 3 days of ownership): 1. Trunk not opening w/ remote 2. Understanding the climate controls 3. iPod system works OK, but why not a jump drive inserted into the USB slot?? Hey, we did figure out how to remove the cup holder extending into the passenger area (just pull hard towards the passenger door direction). One step at a time……… |
