Just got my car out of service and I'm PISSED.

Two MORE cracked Breyton GTS-R rims
Dinan Stage 2 tune was wiped out and set back to stock during reprogramming
No wash (it's too cold...boohoo)

WTF is wrong with these POS Breyton rims???? I will NEVER buy from TireRack.com ever again. Not only will they not warranty them, they want me to buy a new set before they even look at mine to consider a warranty. Riiiiiiiiiight.

So, the car goes back into service on Monday for at least 2 more days.

You forget where those Breytons are made... that's why I try not to buy Chinese-made crap, especially wheels. Back in the days when I had a 350Z and was on those forums, people had cracking issues with the Axis Hiro wheels. From there on, they were called Craxis Hiro. A lot of Chinese-made wheels do not go through quality control as well as Japanese or European made wheels. Their quantity-quality ratio is not balanced at all, hence the low price you are afforded.

Did you talk to Gill at TireRack? Maybe he can do something about your warranty on those wheels.

make the dealer pay for everything. they cracked your wheels and removed the expensive Dinan programming, they should pay for their fuck up

They didn't crack the rims, but they'll definitely reprogram the Dinan. As for Gill, I tried going through him the last time these pieces of crap "magically emerged with cracks" and he was useless. I think I'm going to put my stocks back on and sell the Breyton's to the highest bidder.

yeah, i am not surprised about your breytons cracking.

there was a thread on e90post about a guy with a 335 who had breytons on his ride, long story short the wheels literally split in half parallel to the face while driving, there was no evidence of previous damage to the wheels as they were practically new, the car flipped and was totalled

Exactly. Just like tires, one should invest on a well-developed, well-branded company. Never sacrifice on safety and reliability.

I've hit countless potholes and a few driving events and have no issues with my wheels. Breytons are probably the best selling aftermarket wheels for the 1er so the chance of someone having issues with them are probably larger. But yes they are not forged and are cheap so it's not like they are indestructible. I doubt they just cracked for no reason unless you got a bad set. Like I said, in your other complaint thread, I live in an area with lots of bad potholes and if they were that weak, they would have cracked or bent by now as well. However when buying wheels there are trade offs. Breytons = cheap + light so obviously they aren't going to be the strongest wheel in the world. You're going to have to spend 3-4 grand at the very least to get a strong wheel as light as the breytons.

As regards to the Dinan flash, that's just part of the game. I've had my Dinan software overwritten 3 times now from the dealership. It's just a result of updating the system software.

Breytons are lousy wheels. I won't buy any aftermarket wheel unless it's multi piece. My bbs rx2's lasted 8 years with NY potholes, and never had an issue.

These are nice cars. Let's get nice wheels for them. I'll only look at 4 brands. Bbs, hre, forgeline and fiske.

I'd be temped to report the cracked wheels to the NHTSB. It might not do any good, but if they start seeing enough of it they might look into it. There are standards that these wheels are supposed to meet, and if they're meeting those standards they shouldn't be cracking under normal use.

Where are they cracking at? Can you get some pics?

As far as the Dinan tune goes, that's just something you're going to have to deal with when it comes to a reflash. Everyone should know that going into it, and the Dinan dealer will obviously put the tune back on the car for free.

Any wheel can break under the wrong conditions, even quality rims. I used to have SSR competitions on an older car and those were super-lightweight forged wheels. About $500 a piece for 17"x8 at the the time and weighed about 15lbs each. They were known to bend if you hit the wrong pothole.

Light wheels always come at a price, whether in strength or cost. And I'll never buy wheels that aren't significantly lighter than stock.

Two more? Sounds like you just have wheel issues in general.

As far as the program, if you did not tell them, it is standard to give you the latest updated MAP for your cars ECU.

I hope you get it worked out.

Wow man, this is one of the worst things that I ever heard. Glad I didnt jump on breytons last spring when I swapped out to PS2s. Going with Advans this spring if the money works out, hopefully they wont crack like this.

How many cases have there been of the GTS-R rims cracking? There's a lot of owners out there that don't have any issues. One case without any proper research as to how it happened and the wheels automatically get dubbed as poor quality? The OP hasn't even gotten them back to Tirerack to inspect them.
