Navigation Screen - Day/Night mode

Hi,

I just picked up a new 2009 BMW X6 yesterday, and loving it, except for the navigation screen. I find it very hard to read the names of the streets at night. Does anyone know if there is a way I can switch the maps to night view (black background)? I called the sales rep and he said BMW does not offer that option. I find this hard to believe. Night mode was standard on my FX back in 2006. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is a night mode, although I find it amazing that the NAV does not switch to it automatically, at night!
You have to set it manually. I am thinking you just move the control wheel to the right a couple of times when you are in NAV, and then choose "settings" or something like that. I'm sure it's in the manual.

You can reduce the brightness of the screen with both the instrument panel light rheostat as well as going into the center menu on the main "I" screen page. Unfortunately I have to set the brightness every time I night drive. Sor some reason the computer will not remember it.

This is one of the few annoyances of the vehicle.
It's stupid that they have automatic headlights and brights but didn't bother with the nav screen. You have to manually switch it in the settings.

To make it somewhat more acceptable, I programmed one of the memory buttons for "Night Screen". Then, when in NAV mode, it's just one touch to get to the night mode, not a whole series of inputs.

Still somewhat stupid to have to resort to that - I'm sure it's just a matter of a software revision to make night mode become enabled when the lights come on???

If BMW was convinced that enough would pay for it as an option it would be there in a heart beat.

I'm not so sure about that , there are a lot of 3 series owners still waiting to get decent cup holders. Most would glad have paid if it was offered as an option instead of the stupid pull out from the dash , spill all over the electronics that is offered.

I used to carry napkins in my car at all times because of those stupid cup holders in the 3 series.. Car would smell like coffee until I could get around to detailing it.

I can't seem to find a night mode. Can you explain about what your button is programmed to do?

I was looking for something specific to the nav and can't find anything in the manual or in the menus. My '04 4Runner was automatic!

I have a 2009 x6 that does not have this option. It is an M thing or maybe 2010? My screen is completely different than this...
