Anybody have bmw assist? If so please chime in
Anybody know exactly what bmw assist does? I've been reading some posts about it and I dont know whether or not bmw assist canada is the same as bmw assist usa? For example, if I was lost and wanted some directions, I heard you can just call them and they will direct you to where you want to go. Also, if you wanted reservations to a restaurant they can make it for you. Correct me if I'm wrong but does bmw assist canada do this. If so, I would abuse this program lol.
Anybody know what other neat features come with this program? Please if you have any info on this, list it so we can use it. This seems like a great feature to take advantage of but unfortunately not many people are aware of the features. |

I got the first year free when I got the car and I think its for emergency use only ie. flat tire, mechanical issues....I just got some package from BMW but have not gone through it. You should be expecting something if you just got the car.

The standard level of BMW assist in the US covers things like informing emergency services where you're located if an airbag deploys, being able to speak to the BMW response center for emergency or roadside assistance by pressing the call button, remote door unlocking, and location services if the car is stolen. The initial purchase covers the first 48 months of ownership.
Services such as being able to get directions, traffic conditions, weather forecasts, info on hotels and restaurants, etc. are included in the optional 'Convenience Plan' and costs $199 / year. Not sure what features are included in the Canadian plans. Last edited by Pamlico; 10-31-2009 at 06:49 PM.. |

Some discussion here about Canada:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49820 It's not a lot of money, perhaps worthwhile as a sort of Boomerang after-the-fact theft thing, lol, but I don't think I'll pony up for it. |

One thing I find really useful is the link-up with google maps ... find the location you want on google and you can send it to your car! I haven't figured out yet if this is just available during the first year though (I got two levels when I bought the car - the higher level only good for one year, and the basic emergency service for 4 years I believe).

Ive used the remote door unlocking feature. I was taking a box out of the trunk and closed it, the car was locked and the keys were inside. Whoops.

I know with the convenience upgrade you get some additional features like event reservations, google search, and some other stuff. I only have the standard (free) safety plan, but I was able to get turn by turn directions on mine. I just happened to be talking to the BMW assist, when my Nav decided to not work in a bad area of town...maybe it was just a one time thing! It seemed like standard information, and help would be provided in the safety subscription.

If you pay for it. Ohh and here is a fun feature of BMW Assist. If you fall behind on your car payments they can disable your car remotely. |

As far as i know, in Canada only, the turn by turn on a non-nav is standard. In the US you have to pay for it. We dont have any upgrade plans at all. Just Assist as it comes.
