What brand winters are you running?

I've been calling around to different shops for quote and suggestions on winter tires for the 1 and eveyone seems to be suggesting different tires.

However, they all do suggest one common model and these are the Gislaved nordfrost 5.

Anyone have experience with these? What is everyone else suggesting and running this winter?

Thanks

The rule of thumb is that any winter tire will run better than the best all season. To your questions though, I haven't heard of them...

Im running Pirelli 240 Sottozeros and I absolutly love em. However, they are a bit expensiove and are very hard to find.

Most people on this site will tell you to pick up either Blizzacks or Dunlop D3s and from what I have heard, both are good options.

Apparently, the Gislaved's are what Volvo and other sell to their customers from the dealership.

I ran Blizzak LM-25's on my G37 last winter and they were OK, nothing spectacular. I was still stick in many instances and couldn't get the car moving.

Believe it or not , i have picked up goodyear Nordics from Canadian tire and i must say i was very impressed with their performance. They are not that expensive .BTW , they are only found at Canadian tire and Goodyear tire shops. I would give them 4.5 /5

Never heard of them.. I am running Dunlops.... Gill from Tirerack suggested the dunlops and bridgestones.. there are alot of brands out there that potentially can be good but because of the lack of exposure from customers no one will ever know.

Gislaved is a Swedish brand which was bought by Continental awhile ago... Gislaved NF5 is supposed to be very good... My friend ran them on his Subie Legacy last year and he said they were very good... I think I'm gonna try them...

I've seen a few reviews of a couple of Gislaved Nordfrost tires and they seem to get good reviews for winter traction. They seem to be designed for "severe" winter conditions.

I'm running on Michelin X-Ice Xi2 which I have yet to mount and try out...weather isn't quite cold enough in Vancouver yet.

General Altimax Arctic 205/50/17.

I found them to have really good traction last year, and Generals are priced very competitively.

225/40/18 Dunlop Wintersport 3D's all around on ASA GT2's. The traction in the snow was not bad on them last year. Much more compliant than the stock RFT's.

Looks like I got a pretty good deal on the Gislaved nordfrost 5 so I'll give them a try.

I have Michelin X-Ice2 for my bimmer. I used Hakkepoliita's on my last car and I swear that I could drive up a wall through 10 feet of snow - they are amazing winter tires. The only reason I didn't get them for the 128 is that I drive almost exclusively in the city and the Hakka's are kind of over-kill.
