BBK and dealer
for those who have done the upgrade.
what has been your feedback from the dealer? obviously pads not covered but is the car now flagged? master brake cylinder, what if failure occurs, clearly unrelated? thoughts |

Basically don't expect them to fix anything touching brake fluid without a fight. Why bother upgrading, the brakes are fine.

Unless you track a lot. Then it just becomes a cost of the sport.

If you go to BMW of Austin, then the answer is nothing will be covered. They are dicks about aftermarket upgrades.

My dealership is pretty supportive. In fact, my SA who races a Euro spec e36 M3 recommended AP racing brakes. But then I have purchased 5 new cars from them and referred numerous buyers.

Not sure I agree, the brakes on E9X are a big upgrade from the E46. With about 1200 track miles on the clock in this thing, I find that with good racing pads and fluids, they work very well at the track (especially now that PCF01s are available). The suspension is the weak point, not the brakes - needs motons which are cheaper than brakes. But if you have your mind set on a BBK, I understand the urge (I put brembos on the E46, and they were awesome).

Well I'll tell you this. I would get the pads and rotors from the dealer when the computer estimates that they need to be changed. You can sell them or do whatever you want with them, but you paid BMW in advance for them and the dealership will gladly bill BMW NA for the pads, the rotors, and especially the labor for "installation" of them of which they will pocket.

Even at BMW of Austin, SAs vary. Some who actually go to the track are cooler about aftermarket upgrades.
