1st track day with the M

I will be attending my first track day with my e92 M3 and am quite confused after reading all of the different opinions about the brakes.

Please only people with experience reply.

Those that went with the stock setup (pads, rotors, fluid) did you experience brake failure, part replacement after the track day?
(Warped rotors, pad replacement, fluid flush)

Those that have modified there braking systems with either pads, rotors or fluid. What products did you use?

I just dont want to go into this without the car being properly set up for it. I have done track days with my Evo's & STI's that i have owned and never had a problem with the brakes on any of those vehicles during or after a track day but this M has me a little nervous with all of the negative comments about the braking capability on the road course.

Thanks in advance for the info.

I've been to 7 track days with stock brakes and pads and no problems to date.

What track are you going to?The more experiance that you have is a good thing because novice drivers tend to overuse the brakes compared to experianced drivers even if they are going quite a bit slower.
I have done 4 track days with no issues of which 3 were with stock pads with only a little bit of fade, but nothing unmanageable by backing up your braking points a bit.I ran the last event with Hawk HP+'s on the front & the brakes were somewhat better for fade so I was able to push quite a bit harder with only a little bit of fade.I have only minor vibration issues which sorted itself after about 100kms of street driving.
I also do not run with the MDM on as It will increase your brake temps and cause overheating issues. With a little bit of ontrack management the brakes will work just fine.

I think that statement is very true. The biggest learning point from my first track day was managing stress on the car. You can't go into every corner full speed, brakes mashed to the floor, tires squealing and the car on 3 wheels.

I've learned that there are certain places where you want to go all out, other places where you need to back off.

The first event, my brakes were fading badly after the first day. I haven't had fade so far at subsequent track days.

That's a great point man. It might activate more than people realize, adding to the heat problem indeed. And summer temps don't make it any better either. Take care.
