WRX vs 128i
My friend has an '07 WRX and we were arguing without racing each other which would be faster and why. What are some 1addict thoughts? And why hasn't there been a review of these two models yet?

Assuming both drivers are equal...
In a straight line, WRX slightly. On a track, WRX by a bit more. Better tires, more grip, slightly faster 0-60 times (mt-vs-mt & auto-vs-auto). |

I give it to the WRX.
Not to steal the thread, but yesterday I saw an S2000 (either modded or the CR) making a right hand turn just before the light turned red. It took that corner really fast! How would our little 1er fair against an S2K on a track (not a straight)?

What's the glaring difference in the '08 to '09?

The 2009 WRX has more 41 horsepower/18 ft·lbf of torque, bringing the total output to 265 hp and 244 ft·lbf of torque by swapping the previous TD04 turbo to an IHI VF52 (the same turbo in a STi). It also has a stiffer suspension parts from the STi model and an aerodynamic package. |

Granted, the s2k drivers in that rungroup seemed afraid to push as hard as they could have in the corners. A little bravery from the driver can make a big difference in lap times. Last edited by lib; 06-07-2009 at 09:47 PM.. |

what year WRX, is it stock?
sport package on 128? (really impressed with that on mine) what kind of race? 0-60? 1/4 mile? 60-90? autoX? for sake of argument - an 03-09 WRX (224 hp) will weigh more and have more drive train loss than your RWD 128. 0-60 the wrx may be faster IF, big if, he can properly launch an AWD car. (I had an STI and it's tricky). top end on a stock WRX is ... unexciting IMO, I test drove an 04 and it wasnt that great in the 50-70 mph range. if he's stage two it'll perform closer (and in some cases better) than a stock STI. ... now, racing in the snow on the other hand... |

I think that Subaru is a JDM 2008 Impreza S-GT rather than a WRX. The USDM version of that car is called the 2009 Impreza GT.
The 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX almost equals the performance of the 2008 BMW 135i. From Edmunds.com: 135i ... WRX 0-60: 5.0 ... 5.2 1/4-mile: 13.3 @ 104.0 ... 13.7 @ 98.7 60-0: 109' ... 107' Slalom: 72.4 mph ... 68.5 mph Skid pad: .89g ... .87g Edmunds doesn't use a rolling start from 0-60 like the other automobile magazines. Plus Edmunds doesn't apply an environmental correction factor. Thus owners can actually achieve these times. Here's my 2009 WRX that I cross-shopped with a 2008 BMW 128i & 135i. I live in a snowy area so the AWD works for me. |

no offense, but the 135i is much faster, and handles/brakes alot better than a wrx, even the new 2009. 1/4-mile: 135i 13.3 @ 104.0 ...wrx 13.7 @ 98.7. That is a huge gap in 1/4 mile trap speed. I would def. say that the 135i is much more inline with competing with an STi.
nice suby, used to drive a 04 wrx myself!

As everyone has said, 08, you take it, 09 WRX takes it.
I looked at the STi rather then the 135i...the STi is cheap on the inside and doesn't handle as tightly...I'm sure it'll kill my 135 in the snow but I'm in the city so not to many bad days, maybe 30 days or so. Also the new WRX/STi is ugly as sin! I had a 02 WRX and I know it didn't look good but it was very unquie and a "cool" car. |

Dude, stop smoking .... or pass it up..
If you can't launch AWD properly, then you dont have a license yet.. AWD is easiest to launch out of any drive systems.. If you would be talking about clutch hook up, then we can talk launching properly.. And WRX will always beat 128 if drivers are similar.. (see 09 wrx vs 135 comparo above)... and I bet u never had an STi.. |

I believe in 1st couple meters of the race a 128i will pull ahead but wrx will catch up and pass. I think I have heard RWD is much faster on the take off.
