M cars vs. V10 R8

V10 R8 > all M-car????

4 wheels drift baby...

can this new V10 take on and beat the mighty Four Horsemen of the World(GT2, F430 Scud, GTR Spec V, and ZR1)?

Sweet, but the guys should be shot for taking it into the mud on the side of the road. There wasn't a paved piece of road they could of stopped at to do the commentary and go over the car??
Guess they think it's a 4WD SUV rather than an AWD supercar.

As for > than all M-cars? Well at it's price it should be.

I think it fits in between (quite nicely I might add) M-cars and an F430, performance and price wise....

In canada M-cars range from $70-115K (depending on model/options)

Audi R8 $140-$180K (depending on V8 vs V10 and options)

Ferrari F430 $230K-$300K+ (depending on syder or not and options)

I don't think it can beat any of the car you listed performance wise (GT2, F430 Scud, GTR Spec V, and ZR1)

The fit and finish would likely trump the cars listed. Performance wise it will likely be a tick under the vehicles listed.

That R8 V10 sounds AMAZING!!!!!!! Honestly there isn't a BMW I would rather have over a R8 V8. So this thing is top shelf. Plus like someone said above, Audi current fit and finish is just superb.

M3 > R8 but only because the R8 is so expensive for what you get. For the price of an R8, I would expect the R8 V10...

I'll bet the R8 V10 will beat many supercars around the track...

How is this not stepping on the Lamborghini Gallardo's toes? VW is introducing cars in a segment that they (as well as Porsche) are very comfortable at.

I predict that the V10 R8, like the V8 R8, is going to be a great, manageable super car. Not really competitive with the Scuderia, LP560-4, or even GT2 in performance, but probably much easier to live with.

I predict that the R8 v10 will probably be one of the best supercars on our time. Every tester who has had the pleasure of comparing it to any of it's rivals marvel at it ability to be totally at ease near or on the limit, and it progression into oversteer is smoother and more predictable than all others.

It may not ultimately be the quickest but is that really that important, surely enjoyment at being able to drive it near the limit without crapping yourself everything is the only thing that should matters.

LP560-4 > R8 V10 > F430 Scud > GT2 > R8 4.2 > ZR1 > GTR > All M's

can't compare the R8 or any supercar to M cars. they're all compromises to begin with.

Not wanting to disagree for the sake of it. But this opinion all depends on what you are looking from your supercar.

If outright performance is king then it should read ZR1 > LP560 > F430Scud > GT2 > R8 v10 > GTR > R8 v8

If it's the quickest on the track then ZR1 > GTR > F430 Scud > LP560 or R8 v10 or GT2 > R8 v8

But if it's the best balance of all of these plus easy on the limit handling balance with a comfortable ride then R8 v10 > R8 v8 > LP560 > ZR1 > GTR > GT2 > F430 Scud

All of the above are equally right, it's just how you place their respective importance.

And you are correct, any supercar is greater than an M car. But that is not to say that the Ms aren't great cars, just that they are improved versions of some very run of the mill cars to start with.

Great post, pretty much agree completely. I ama bit baffled by the criteria used to generate the list you replied to. Perhaps it was just a list of personal desirability.

Not living up to your username, are you? And would you say your 335i is a compromise? Couldn't we say that any car of lesser perceived "value" is a compromise? I don't want to start some sort of a war, but I have driven both an R8, GTR, and obviously my M3. To be honest, I would never buy the R8 or GT-R. I was wholly unimpressed with the GTR's cheap interior and plastic-ridden exterior. Don't get me wrong, that thing moves! And the R8 V8 - Bleh. It does nothing for me. My cousin has an RS4 (same motor), and I used to tromp on him with my bolt-on EVO 9 MR. For what you pay, it doesn't seem worth it. This R8 V10 is much more appetizing...

The R8 is MUCH more than an engine! Making the comparison to an RS4 with the same motor is certainly a pitfall! However, it would be fair to make the comparison between the R8 V10 and Gallardo
