I'm confused..
MT says BMW will release a 300hp "hardcore" 135 in 2011. So what is my 320hp 135? Softcore? MT also says that it will be powered by "an impressive300-hp coming from a twin-turbo 2.2L inline-six" Last I checked my n54 is a twin-turbo 3.0L inline six. Oh and MT says we can expect an M1? Pretty sure BMW already answered that question.. The Tii is in the works, but no M1. Then MT lists the "full lineup of speculated Euro market 1 Series engines" without mentioning the n54. Is this some sort of time vortex where MT is going back to 2007 and predicting the specs for the e82?

I never follow MT or Car and Driver or those other rags.
The only one I put any trust in is Automobile Magazine. It seems much more factual and level. Not near as sensationalized as those other rags. |

Did you read those posts too. There are advantages to bigger displacement. Smaller is only better to a point. And the 135i has that balance in check.

i'd wait for something more official. it's mentioning engine options in Europe, but that doesn't mean we'll see those same engines. and to those who are confused by "300hp hardcore model", they probably mean the Tii, because isn't the Tii supposed to have the same (or very similar) power as the 135i, but a decreased curb weight and better suspension, thus making it more "hardcore" than a 135i? Think of the 135i as the E46 M3, and the Tii as the E46 M3 CSL.

This article is weird on many levels.
If updated n54 will be used, car will be around 330-350hp, not 300 for hardcore model. 2.2 inline 6 - no way. BMW philosophy always been the balance, which is displacement = 1/2*(number of cylinders). and I never seen a modern design with a really small displacement inline6 (2.2????) I really do hope for 2.5 twin Turbo inline4, aka STi for 125 model and updated n54 for the supersport model. Last edited by amdmaxx; 01-27-2009 at 06:21 PM.. |

i wouldn't be so sure about 330-350bhp. the sti has gone from 300bhp (2004), down to 293bhp in 2007, then up to 305bhp for 2008. so i wouldn't expect anything over 320bhp if there even IS an updated N54.

STi getting Direct Injection within a year or two - think more HP, better fuel economy and less lag.
Updated N54 is already in new 7.. Z370 has 330hp and most family sedans are now over 300.. I say bring 135 Supersport with 340hp TT inline 6. Save 2.2 tt 4 for 130 model.. |
