Tire Bulge

I have been getting a near-constant warning light about tire pressure. The pressures were within the ranges, but I kept getting the idiot light. Last night, it dipped into the 40s for the first time and the tires looked a little low.

Took the car down to the pump, warming up the tires with a five minute run, and filled the tires slowly. Turned the car off to reset the monitor and it came back on again. Added a little more air, made sure the caps were on tight. Turned of the car again (two cycles) and the damned warning light was still on.

Went out to try again and I noticed a quarter-sized bulge on the sidewall next to the 'Bridgestone' lettering. The bulge stuck out about a half-inch. I let out a little air pressure, but it did not abate. Obviously, I drove home very slowly.

Any ideas/suggestions? Happened to anyone else?

Col.

Thank you Lester - hopefully the warranty will cover it!

Dealership said tire and rim hit something - not covered under warranty.

Unbelievable - currently test driving an X5 for my wife and they pull a stunt like that. I guess the economy is ok after all...

Were you filling your tire when warm? You should measure the tire pressure when you haven't driven the car in several hours, then add air if neessary.

It sounds like you got a bubble in your tire. That happens when you hit a pothole or a curb and the tire gets damaged but you didn't hit it hard enough to blow it out. Rarely it is caused by a defective tire but when you remove the tire you can tell what caused it. This happens quite frequently with low profile tires. I got no less than 4 bubbles on my Audi TT in the 8 years that I owned it. Tires and rims are not covered under warranty unless you specifically get the tire and rim warranty in which case this should definitely be covered.
