I should have gone with 235x40 and 255x35

Just returned from installing a set of of 18x8.5 Breyton GTS-R 18x8.5 all around (front 5mm spacers) and Dunlop Direzza Z-1 Star Specs in 245x40-18 and 265x35-18. The set up looks great (pics tomorrow) but there is rubbage all around on the fenders. So looks like 235x40 and 255x35 would just about be the max for trouble free fitment. I'll need to massage the fenders in the near future.

depends on the offset of your wheels. But i'm surprised that the rears rub. and those are some fat tires for 8.5

That sucks it rubs, but it looks like that's too much tire for our cars. 235 in front still seems decent.

"If you're not rubbin', you're not racin!' someone once said. So I'll work the fenders a little with my fender rolling device when I get it back in my possession.

Mike, did you trim that ill placed tab that connects the front fender to the bumper, right inside the wheelwell? That might be your only issue.

Also, that must look pretty bad-assed. How about some pics?

why bother grinning it off? Why not just remove it completely? I'm curious about the offset btw. I'm looking at the same front tyres but 275 at the rears.

I believe that tab is one of the attachments points for the front bumper cover, so can't be removed entirely. Breyton GTS-R offset for the 18x8.5 is et48. I think the stock rear wheels at et52 would not rub with the Zed 1 265, but I don't know about 275.

BTW, my car is currently at stock height, but I plan on a mild suspension mod with H&R OE Sport springs and Koni Sport S/A yellows. So I want tires that fit.

Just ordered Zed 1 225x40-18 for the front. I'll move the 245x40 to the rear and sell the new 265x35-18 Zed 1s to some lucky guy with OE wheels.

I'm always pushing wheel/tire fitment to the limits and I'm definitely getting tired of the issues, not to mention the expense.

mike, go custom like I am. Definitely no issues! 275 will fit with custom offset and fred has even got 285 in there. Also, there is no way in the world that offset is gonna fit my fronts. I am looking at high 20s offset.

So I can't run rear 264's on the front with 12mm spacers?
I would love to know for sure where your fronts are rubbing.

If it's rubbing the fender in the front with the 5mm spacer, could you remove the spacer?

(BTW, looks amazing).

Yes you can. My net offset is et43 so you only need 10mm spacers in the front for OE rear wheel fitment (better for fender clearance). This set up does clear the strut but not the fender lip or front fender tab mount with 245x40 tires. So you have to be very conservative in tire sizes. I ordered 225x40-18 Zed-1s today to put on the front with the 18x8.5 and 5mm spacers and will move the 245x40 to the rear.

THe 265x35-18 Star Specs are for sale--very low miles.

Looks really good with that much tire on those wheels--definitely aggresive.

do you really need the 5mm spacer in the front with 225s? I thought a 225/255 set up would have no problems with rubbing, even if you lowered the car a bit.

Yes. With the front 18x8.5 Breytons at et48 the wheel rim would contact the strut body without the spacer. Might get by with 3mm with 225 tires but it would be very close.
