Adding M Sport steering wheel on 128i vert.
I am considering the 128i vert but I wanted the M Sport steering that is available only with the 135i sport package.
I inquired about purchasing the M Sport steering wheel as an add on replacement after the fact. I was told by the dealership service dept. that it can be done for about $85 labor. The M Sport steering wheel with paddle shifters will cost about $950. For the difference in "feel" to me it would be worth it. The one thing constantly in use while driving is the steering wheel and it gotta "feel" right. I just thought some of you would be interested in knowing about that possibility. |

Wow!! You can get the BMW Performance steering wheel for that amount. Ping one of the dealers, like Dan@United and get a price from them.
Btw, replacing a steering wheel is pretty easy. Just make sure to disconnect the battery first. |

there will probably be a few of them showing up in the for sale section
I know I'll be getting the performance wheel, and selling the stock sport wheel, but no paddle shifters on the car I'm ordering |

Thanks for the tip.
I'll remind the guys in the service dept. to disconnect the battery first. This may sound like a lot to spend on a steering wheel after the fact but the difference in the feel makes it worth it to me. I do not need the HP of the 135i and at my age (55) I just want to have a little more fun driving again. I had a 1993 BMW 325 sedan for 8 yrs. and it was the best handling car I ever had. Owned a 2001 MB SKL for 4 yrs. and am currently driving an Infiniti FX 35 for the past 3 yrs. I gotta get back to my roots with the Bimmer. 128i vert. TI Silver Terra Lth. int. Moonlight soft top Light Burl Walnut trim Sport pkg. CA HD radio Prem. sound Xenon Auto. add-on M Sport steering wheel Can you you dig it. |

I was told that they can use the existing airbag.
It must be a fairly simple process since BMW does sell a performance steering wheel under the options or accessories area on their website for $1,068. They said it will cost $85 for them to replace the original steering wheel with the M sport wheel. That's no more than an hour of labor. |

From what I've read the M-Sport & Sports package airbags are interchangeable with each other but not interchangeable with the standard non-sport airbag. |

I can dig it! Not that far from your age, brother. I only wish you were local, because I'd be much more than happy to replace the thing for you, to save you a few dollars... that is if you're not a Pittsburg fan, and then all bets are off.

Thanks, but with the sport pkg. and paddle shifters it will cost about $950. You have the right price without the shifters. I wonder if these guys sell it with the paddle shifters for less than $950 as well. |

I've heard that BMW steering wheels are all interchangeable with one another. That is, if you wanted an M5 steering wheel in your 1er, it would at least fit (I doubt electronic controls are 100% compatible between all models). Can someone confirm?
