Can you hear the turbos on a totally stock 135i?

Can you guys hear the turbos on a stock car? Is it normal? I started noticing a noise the other day with ac off and stereo off at low speeds.

Also, I noticed that when the ac and stereo are off, there seems to be some kind of noise coming from the engine or the cabin. IT almost sounds like a cd rotating in the cd player or like a fan. Does anyone else have this or know what it is?

Thanks.

mm you can hear the turbos sometimes, especially at high engine speeds during prolonged full throttle...

the sometimes depends on stereo, windows, and a/c. I got my car in late may, so I have been using the ac almost constantly, but I can hear it sometimes.

the weird noise, I BELIEVE I have heard, but more than anything, my car seems to be crazy (as in, it makes random noises) because I have the ac in the automatic fresh/recycled air setting all the time, so it opens and closes the intake as it needs to, and there are a lot of big trucks and dust on the routes I regularly take.

yes. it was actually one of the first things i heard in regards to engine noise when i started driving the car. i could hear it over the exhaust but now i kinda focus on the exhaust more. if you turn off your radio and aircondition and lower the windows you can definitely hear the turbos in first gear.

as has been said already, yes, you definitely can hear the turbo's on a stock car. When all else is quiet, everytime you put your foot down, if you have the windows open, you can hear the turbo's spool up (very quickly mind you). Particularly noticable at low speed due to lack of wind noise.

i really wish someone would make a clean looking intake that could house the DVs, so we could amplify that gorgeous sound. BOVs are something I am trying to avoid.

Compared to a Volvo or smaller Audi, it's nothing. I also noted -0- turbo lag with my manual.

Yes, but they are not nearly as loud as my old car. (PT Cruiser GT) On that car I could hear a loud whine every time I put my foot down. On this car I can barely hear them with the windows down.

If anyone is interested in hearing their turbos in all their audible glory, you might want to check out single/dual cone BMS intakes.

I like not hearing the turbos. It makes me think that I have a non-turbo car but with all the power of twin-turbos. Plus it makes others go crazy cuz they can't really hear them either from other cars as much
