Thumbs up new i-Drive in 1-series (and steering wheel warmer)

I know a couple of these pics have been posted, but here's a few more of the new iDrive system in 1-series. I like the new look in the dash!

Size of the new screen looks good. The new unit looks like it would fit into the same dash opening as the existing iDrive.

Not sure if I like the way the unit sits on the dash, looks like an after thought especially since the color does not match the dash color. Also its visible when the car is parked. I like the fact the the existing idrive closes up and is hidden away when the car is parked.

Flip screen > 3 series iDrive dash > This.

I still don't think it looks BAD, but it certainly gives you the feeling the BMW guys said, "How do we fit THIS screen HERE?"

That is a big screen. I like it's implementation on the existing 1 and this new implementation way better than that odd bulge on the 3 series.

Where on the dash is that steering wheel heat button located? This feature has been confirmed for the 1-Series outside the US but I hope BMWNA will officially announce MY2009 changes soon.

It appears to be on the right-hand side of the steering column (for LHD cars, at least ; -).

But my question is does the heated steering wheel work with the Sport Package and the ///M Steering wheel?

These pics show the non-sport package wheel:iono:

I was really jealous/mad about the change untill I saw these pictures. I like having the option of hiding my screen when I don't need it and the new design dosen't flow very well. I'm sure the new system is better but I'm happy with mine.

my thoughts exactly, the navi screen is only up periodically when i drive, and closed most of the time.

If you look closely..u can still hide the navi.
Looks to me there's a door you can push down.

I for one like the huge screen.:w00t:

I like the design and love the bigger screen but I don't like the fact that you can't hide it. At night I usually keep the NAV flipped down because I find the glow from the screen too distracting. Really love the amber backlight from instrument clutter on the BMW.

Look closely at the top of the navi screen. It looks like a flip down door.

I see what you mean, but it will still have a big triangle shaped wedge sticking out of the dash.

It is hard to warrant to get the 2009 model due to the new iDrive. It is very nice though. I love that huge screen.

At that time, you can probably save a significant amount getting a 2008 model in the lot... use that money elsewhere.

Break it down...how much are you REALLY paying for that new iDrive? You have a 2009 1-series and then you have a 2008 1-series. It's not the price that it adds onto the 1-series base model, but it's the price difference if you were to get a 2008 instead.

Anyone know if that steering wheel warmer is only on convertibles or will it come with the Cold Weather Package on the coupes?

No amount of resolution or split screen features make up for losing the flip-down capability.
