Can the new 7er blow the doors off the 135i?

http://www.leftlanenews.com/bmw-7-series.html
The cars base motor is the 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8. It allegedly produces 407hp 450tq. This same motor propels the 5,000lb X6 to 60mph in 4.8 seconds and quarter in 13.3 per RoadandTrack. The 7 comes in at a hefty 4200lb. Hot Damn. I wonder what it will do the lighter 5 series. This is why I looove BMW. Crazy mofos.
Fuel Economy is said to increased 6% b/c of the additional gears.
This gen 7series will no longer be BMW's flagship from the those ''in the know'' have said. An 8 series and new Z8 is on the way.
BMW says the 750i is capable of 0-62mph in 5.2seconds....Riight. In this day and age 11's are the new 12's.

Sounds interesting...

First thing that came to my mind was a 4.4ltr twin turbo is exactly what the M3 needs !!! it's just barely ahead in performance over a 135i at more than twice the cost...and is being smacked by so many other hi-po car types out there in it's price range and even cheaper, it really needs to up the ante...

As for this new 7, I think it'll do better than low 5's to 100km/h, but if it only manages low 5's that's still quick for a car of that size, but it's not enough to put it in the 11's - it would have to run a sub 4sec to 100km/h to be in the 11sec zone over the 1/4 mile run

Your right. I wasnt saying it was capable of 11's. I'm just saying that 12seconds is starting to become the norm. I say they slap this motor into an M3 CSL. It will absolutely romp. Its incredible. They really werent messing around this time.

^^Very observant.

Found it. I'm pretty sure the 135i conv takes over 5sec.

I'm thinking along the same line, just with the 1er as the recipient.

I think you are right on the money. This car is a keeper, meaning BMW should keep it to them selves. The motor is alsome but the rest of the car

The front looks okay (it will grow on me for sure), the interior is nice (but not necessarily a huge improvement over the current one), but the rear does look absolutely hideous. Excessively ugly!

The interior is pretty much ripped off of the X5/X6.

i dunno if the sstt will work with the twin turbo v8, but the twin turbo v8 will have its own tuning options, i'm sure.

whats interesting is that the 7er will have an n54 engine option, with a rating of 326hp. and you could slap a sstt, or a more serious tune, on that puppy.

I can think of multiple Ferraris produced in the last 15 years that are slower 0-60 than that 4 door, lux-o-matic, boat of an automobile.

Progression is the name of the game, in 5 years, given the same trend, the 135 will have "normal" performance numbers. BMW is a performance driven company, the cars they produce tend to be more oriented/marketed toward performance. One can only expect that they will only end up producing better numbers over time.

Enjoy your 1er.

I would expect that they will sell fewer 7s than 1s in 09. All of their sales are down (except for the 1) and things are not likely to get better quickly. Your odds of encountering a new 7 may be pretty low.
