Can BMW Performance parts be installed at the factory for ED?

Has anyone tried to do this? I know installing aftermarket stuff while in Europe will just be removed and tossed/replaced with OE components at the VPC. But what about BMW Performance Parts? (ie exhaust, CF spoiler)

Any parts you put on during ED will be removed and thrown away once your car reaches America. Anything that's not FACTORY installed (mods are DEALER installed) will not be on the car when you get it back. Basically, if it's not on the car when the car is made, it won't make back to the states.

If you think about it, that's really stupid. These BMW Performance parts have BMW Part #s on them are are spec'ed for the BMW 1-series in the BMW computer database. It would be a feature to allow us doing ED a little more personalization on our orders.

Yes I know this sounded like a n00b topic, as I already know you can't add on anything to the car and expect it to be still on the car when it gets stateside, but what's to say these parts weren't installed at the factory during the build process...

I agree completely, however I'm sure it's not up to BMW as to what their can/can't be on the car when it's imported. They've more than likely got a check-list of stuff that is supposed to be in/on the car. If your car differs from the Order Sheet, then this would cause delays.

This is all speculation, and I agree it sucks not being able to do it. Think of it this way though, less stuff to pack!
