BMW Performance Parts Opinions
I'm looking at BMW's Factory Performance parts lineup and was wondering what people's opinions were on any actual performance gains from some of these parts. Most the opinions seem deeply mixed in with other discussions, in particular wondering about the below parts. Would love the opinion of some folks who've actually purchased and installed them. I do realize some of this may be rehashing stuff that's been discussed, would like to see it revisited however

What? Where are you getting that info? I'm not a big modder guy, but it's my understanding that the colder the air going into the turbo is the more efficient the turbos will be and the higher the boost power will be. So a CAI should actually work just fine on a turbo car. In fact I'm pretty sure it's one of the recommended modifications for an Evo and those have always been turbo charged.

you may hear the ridiculous comment every now and then that turbo cars could never benefit from a CAI because the air eventually flows though a hot turbo. Welll period point blank is that if the air is colder going in to a hot area its going to be colder coming out rather than if the air was drawn from a hot section... The gains may be minimal but nonetheless there are gains. On a side note N/A cars do seem to get much better results after a CAI than a FI car does...

(Personal preference, stock shifter is good for me) BMW E82/88 1 Series BMW Performance Exhaust System (Great if you want it louder, I like stock sound level) BMW E82/88 1 Series BMW Performance Big Brake Kit (waste of money on the 135i, we already have 6 pot) BMW E82/88 1 Series BMW Performance Suspension (I like stock suspension for the street) BMW E82/88 1 Series BMW Performance Cold Air Package for 135i (I would only buy it if it looks good, definitely not for hp gains) BMW E82/88 1 Series BMW Performance Rotors (yes, very good idea to save a few pounds per corner, but slots shave the pads and cause even more brake dust)

I drove a 135 with some BMW performance goodies on it at a BMW test drive event. The exhaust had a sweet sound. Louder then stock with a nice aggressive growl to it. It is maybe 20% louder at most so it is not too bad. I drove it back to back with a stock 135 and I couldn't tell any performance difference. Sure sounds good though! The car also had the performance brakes...cross drilled rotors etc...I only drove it on an autoX course and the brakes were great. However, the course never got much into 3rd gear so the stock brakes showed no sign of fade so I didn't notice any gains in the performance brakes. However, they do look pretty trick!

From what I understand, the BMW Performance Cold Air Package (part# 51740442875) is comprised of new air ducts but does not include a cold air intake. The intake is a different item and sold separately (BMW Performance Cold Air Intake, part# 13720444749 ), which is currently unavailable.
EDIT: Referring to the 135i. |

My recently acquired bmw performance catalogue shows an air intake kit for the 128 only.
BTW, have any of you driven a 135 with a carbon strut brace (part no. 51710429377)? |
