Will you get the automatic or manual tranny?
I'm considering buying the 135 in the standard transmission.. but is it even worth it anymore?
If the gearing in the auto is the same and is a non-slush type tranny, I think I might just go with that :iono: Lets get some input on this topic |

Depends, I will test drive both and whichever one I like best will get my purchase. I am used to driving automatics but recently started driving manuals and like them alot. I am just unsure about getting one with all the traffic here in Orlando.

Manual. I like being in control of my gears, regardless of 0-60 times or traffic on the road.
Does this site have polling function? It might make a better thread as a poll. Then we can have the Leather vs. 'ette poll and the what color are you ordering poll next.  |

I learned to drive stick on my current car and I love it. I'm one to appreciate an auto transmission when traffic flow isnt ideal. Manual is just to much fun for me so I'm going with manual!!! I'm at 55k and the clutch is still good so I guess I'm okay at it.

As much as I complain about driving a manual in traffic, I couldn't get this car with a Auto. It's unnatural!

Learned to drive a stick in 1976 on a Karman Ghia - have driven nothing but since. (But a DSG - not a slush box - would be very welcome. The ZF six speed auto is very good and does appropriate downshifts, but it still uses a torque converter, unlike VW/Audi DSG which uses clutches.)

If so, its gonna be SICK. The new M3 is good for 60 in about 4.4 seconds. I can see it shaving another .2-3 off that time. Thats why BMW stategically didnt have these released first. The C63 is in a for big surprise. I still dont want my 135i with something like it though. :/

When SMG first came out for the M3 I drooled. So when my wife's Lexus came with paddles I was thrilled to try out the "paddle" method. Well, let's just say I'm not sure I like having to hold the wheel like that all the time. For straight out 0-60 it is probably fine....but I have been known to shift on turns and I just didn't like the hand operation. Maybe I need to try for a week or so.
Please keep in mind that I am not comparing the paddle shifting technologies (they are not comparable), but the simple hand position and operation of shifting. I just hope they use a tight, short throw gear box in this car. I have gotten used to the incredibly accurate gear box in my 06 Civic Si. It's for sale BTW http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47914

The 1er will be available with a ZF six speed manual or ZF six speed automatic. The ZF automatic uses a torque converter - not a set of clutches, like the DSG. The torque converter is a piece of technology that I don't want to explain, so I'll point to an explanation.

According to Car & Driver, the 335i with SMG is slightly slower than with the 6-speed manual (by 0.3 seconds, if I remember correctly). However, having said that, the only way I'll buy this car is if it can be had with SMG, since my wife will have to be able to drive it, and she doesn't know how to drive a stick. |
