Battling alignment issues
Oye!
Got new winter tires, did alignment, drove over somewhat of a poor surface at 30mph or so, can't say it was crater pothole ridden, but enough to be uncomfortable. Doing this knocked the alignment out again, got that fixed, but now it's pulling in the opposite direction. I'm going to rotate front tires (left to right, right to left) as they are staggered (M-Sport 20s). Maybe it's a faulty tire also contributing? Is there anything else that should be paid attention to? |

Is this a normal alignment reading? Attached. My car is pulling to the left and their biggest changes were changing the toe on right front and left front, whereby it's pulling to the left now.

I offer a past alignment for comparison. I cannot speak as to why yours and mine give different terms / measurements.
I only grasp the basics of alignments and at that, primarily the front TOE in which I was trying to reduce to slow down the ridiculous amount of wear on the outside edges of my fronts. By reducing my Toe in up front, I increased my front tire life by 60% !

Yes Yes Yes!
That camelToe is good, dead nuts good. As close to 0.06 as possible, don't settle something that is "green," or within spec. Toe eats tires for sure, not camber. If you're getting something like 0.1xx or higher, But still in the green, try again. Make sure they account for your own weight too in the driver seat. You may want to check for any worn rubber bits in the suspension. At your car's age and mileage, if it was never changed, it's probably worn.

After successful wheel alignment, do you find your car tracks in lorry Rutts or pull with camber on the road. I just had new tier rods and tie rod ends and still seems to twitter about on the road even after 4 wheel alignment

I personally don't think alignment has much to do with that phenomena, ruts will yank your wide tires around whether they are aligned well or not. YMMV
My Primary concern was the fact I got only 15k miles out of front tires, and only because one edge (the outsides) of the fronts was bald, while the rest of the tread had lots of life left. The stock alignment specs seem absurd to me. I didn't notice any decrease in steering agility and even if I did, it would have been worth it. It's not a sports car.

To clarify, in the quoted post I was referring to TOE only. I have no expertise other than that experience so will let others chime in.
Also - there is a lot of good alignment info over on X5 Outpost forum. https://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/x5-e70-forum/

Interesting enough I'm readying to take my 2011 50i in for an alignment. It has sport package with style 336 wheels. In the past it has chewed the outside of my fronts and the dealer said its normal, definitely didn't believe them. I'm now inclined to purchase Firestone lifetime alignment and take it to someone I know there. Hopefully they can take their time to set the Toe to Zero or close.
