100TW or 200TW for street/HPDE

Hi Guys,

Would like to use one tire instead of having both street+track setup.

Was looking at either 275/305 NT01 (100TW) or 275/315 RT660 (200TW)

Would like a tire that heats up relatively fast on the street and track. Not worried too much about tread life, just want consistency and a tire that
heats up relatively quick.

I've tried PSC2 and RE71R with good results on 19s (265/305) but moving
to 18s soon so choice is NT01 or RT660.

Thanks,
Steve

BTW also would like to know if anyone has compared RE71R and RT660 since they are so similar in tread design.

RE71R is an awesome autocross tire but not so much on the road course (not as consistent and gets greasy after a couple laps). It heats up pretty quick but it likes
short intervals of heat build up.

Wanted to know if RT660 will be the same result.

I've used RE71s as a single street+track tire for years. Even now, I drive to/from the track on RE71s and use BFG R1 or Hoosier R7 at the track.

They don't make it anymore, but I suppose many competitors also work for that

Would also look at nankang CR1 (phils tire sells them)

Yes I've heard good things about the AR1, CR1 is the 200TW correct? Anyone have experience with the CR1?

They overheat easily. Get the NT01.

I'm throwing out 3 day old CR1s and have fresh NT01s coming Wednesday.

The CR1s were good in Spring during cool weather but don't perform well in 80s+

He's asking for a single set of tires to do road and track. You'd have to be a huge masochist to run nt01s on the street as your normal tires

You're right. Not sure about the AR1 or CR1 as street tires either then.

I’ve been running NT01’s as my street tires on the M4 since last summer, I am on my 4th set since last June and they are pretty bald. M2 also has NT01’s for street and track driving.

If you're not chasing laptimes, Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3 (220 TW) are more than decent for dual duty.

I don't mind running 100TW on the street, we get sunny dry weather 80% of the year in southern california. Just looking for consistency and relatively quick heat up for both street and track.

I have found the key for the track with both RE71 and NT01 is to limit on track tire pressures to 32-34. 33 psi for me is the sweet spot on both these tires. I was at COTA on RE71’s two weeks ago for 3 days and they never got greasy on 20+ minute sessions, but I dropped tire pressures to 33 psi as soon as I was pitted.
The next morning my tire pressures would be 24 psi.

I have also had weekends were I chased tire pressures all day and the tires would get greasy after a few laps. I have realized it’s ok to go out with tire pressures at 26-27 psi, just drive at 90% for a lap or so and you will feel the grip and your confidence increase.

I think the problem is the alignment. To run dual duty you have to run no more than -2.5 degree of camber. Once you start going faster, you will wreck a set of anything in one weekend on the track.

Yeah, I run -3.0 front and -2.0 rear.
If I’m driving 2-4 track days every month the negative camber isn’t wearing the tires.
It’s the tires scrubbing on the track on turn in.

Most of my tires only last 2-4 track days

This track addition isn’t cheap!

Just start buying scrubs... $500 a set for Pirelli DHs or Hoosier A7s. The Pirelli's will last 4 days doing 4 full 30min sessions a day. However, my wife wrecked a set of A7 scrubs in literally 20 laps total. 5 sessions of out lap, 2 timed laps, and in lap. And they were toast. But she had ton of fun and got a taste for some of that purple crack!

Another +1 for the Goodyear Supercar 3. Especially as an HPDE tire, it does not have drastic drop off like the RE71R in hot conditions.

Where do you find these scrubs for that price?

I run NT01 from April to Nov. They are dicey when it's wet and also very noisy which drives some mad.

As my first and only track tire I have no reference for comparison to other tires.

Conti just launched a new tire 200TW which is a more a durability tire. They say grip is similar to Hankook RS3. Not the same level of grip as RE71R but will last longer.
