Door lock rattle

Hey everyone - I have a 2013 6speed with 60k on in it an loving every second of it. One big issue i have that is driving me crazy is a rattle from the passenger side door. It seems to go away when the doors are not locked. Its a rattle/vibration and very annoying. Has anyone had this? Thanks.

I don't have any door rattles in my M5 but it sounds like it could be worth removing the door trim and ensuring everything is properly secured.

That’s the next step if corse if no one seems to have same issue and knows of a solution. Is it hard to do? Took plenty of panels off just never on a BMW

It's actually fairly easy. Easiest way is to use a trim removal tool set, prying of the panel step by step all the way around. Or squeeze your fingers in between the panel and the doorframe. Once you got a hold on the panel, it comes off easy. Just search for door panel removal F10 on YouTube. After removing the panel, you need to unhook all the wiring or position the panel on an even surface, so you can work on the inside of the door frame. It will look like this after removal, front driver door panel:

You have to remove bolts behind the upper trim piece and plastic cup behind the door handle before you can remove the door panel. Bavsound has a video on f10 speaker replacement that details. However, their instructions on removing the door handle cup are bad. For front passenger door, open the door handle and stick a trim removal tool or thin screw driver through the hole behind the handle and push to the far right until you feel the right side of the cup release. Then, you’ll have to stick a thin/skinny trim removal tool behind the upper part of the cup about 2-3 inches from the left side of the cup. You have to get the tool in far nearly all the way to the bottom of the cup to release the left side of cup. There is a thin plastic rod you are trying to release that is easy to break. If you break the rod, the cup will still stay on pretty well though. I would then use some dynamat or something similar to get rid of the rattle.
