I think reliable is a relative term to how well it was cared for prior to you, and how well you take care of it going forward. So it's very much a case-by-case basis and the more information you post specific to the car you're looking at, the more the knowledgeable guys will be able to chime in.

I'm also getting ready to take delivery of a 2013 with 34k miles. I just did my homework on here, checked the common points of concern, checked service records as best as I could, got as much history on the car as I possibly could, and just did a bunch of reading on here.

From what I gather, they can take a "beating" in moderation as long as you're keeping up with preventative maintenance and not wringing it's neck 24/7.

Then again, I'm learning myself so don't take what I say as biblical fact.

Feel free to read through my post on the General Forum, buncha guys that dropped some good info in there!

Best of luck, cheers!

I lurked for a year before pulling the trigger on one with just over 40k on the clock. The predominate theme seems to be if it had regularily schedule oil changes and the previous owner didnt romp the shit outta of it before it was warm then you "should" be ok.

OTS flashes are def hit or miss around here. So I would stay away from them for now if you are worried about reliability.

Agreed with others and DM'ed a response to your question you sent me. Bought a '16 6spd with 47k in February and good thus far. Took to a dealer for a minor warranty issue and then took to a Dinan-referred independent who did a full inspection and everything was good.

To answer some others, yes it did have Dinan coil overs installed by the original owner. Stoked with the first four months of ownership (it was CPO'ed by the dealership too - not that it's worth much given coverage).

I'm starting to lean towards the Dinan stage 2 ECU [flash?] if warranty won't be voided

Are they reliable, can they take a beating?

Day in, day out at the Nurburgring they were used as "ring taxis" they took a beating every day but were well maintained.

Look after them and just enjoy!

not to derail this thread too much, but here you get to both be *in* an F10 M5 on the 'ring and *watching* an F10 M5 on the 'ring. Best of both worlds, and they're both going pretty hard. Ring taxi has some good controlled oversteer, especially at 4:30.
