BMW M5 F10 2015 losing M settings
So, every 2, 3 days that I don’t use the car, my car is loosing all the settings.
I still have the profile and everything, but my M settings are gone, + I have the increase battery discharge message but the car starts just fine. My battery is still OEM. |

You probably need a new battery.

Nothing wrong with the battery, someone before you was fiddling with the settings.Try and re-set to factory settings.
Give it a good charge with a decent charger like the CTEK MX5 from the under bonnet points, don't disconnect battery. Last edited by M5Rick; 07-31-2020 at 08:32 AM.. |

It’s 100% the battery. Replace it.

whats the damage on battery replacement? Dealer vs indy? Also can you replace the battery your self and program the car with some of the easier apps out there or do you need one of those German apps to do it ( I had a laptop that had all the BMW apps at one point but it crashed and I havent replaced it since to seemed like the older hardware worked better).

Changing the battery is the same as would be in any car you just need to program the battery at the end.
I went with the Autozone AGM OEM replacement battery for my replacement comes with warranty and can swap with them if it ever fails. I have the Carly App and was able to program the new battery in very quickly and easily. That being said do not change the battery and drive around for too long without programming it. There have been horror stories about cars that had their batteries changed and the electrical system failing because the battery was not programmed. I don’t know how much it actually affects the car but better to be safe than sorry over something so simple.

I saw the OEM battery for 160 dollars, I think I’m going to replace it then. Is just weird that the car starts just fine, never had a problem of battery dying, and stop and go works perfect but I don’t use it

BMWs always have gremlins when the battery is going bad. The car could start perfectly but you will start to see all sorts of weird things happening. Also yes Carly can register the battery. I went completely OEM and bought my battery at the local dealer and used Carly to register it. I just wanted to be sure I matched what the car needed. A bit more expensive but I know for sure I'm good to go now.

To be fair he said he used Carly. I brought up Bimmercode. Looks like the app dev for BimmerCode also makes an app called BimmerLink for 26 bux it will allow you to code the battery

You got it wrong mate. I had message come on battery discharge when radio stopped,a/c stopped, stop/start stopped and other things. Charged up with CTEK that cleans up the battery inside too, did it a few times now its like new. Battery is original 7 years old.

Of course - CTEK. Why didn’t I think of that?
Maybe I didn’t think of it because I don’t like putting bandaids on simple inexpensive maintenance parts on my beloved $120k car. CTEK is not magic. To each their own tho! Very happy you’re happy with it mate |

I think you mean genuine BMW battery - as there is no such thing as a “genuine M battery.”
And yes - when a battery doesn’t see use the voltage drops. Exactly. So what should you do if you don’t use your car? Maintain it with a battery tender/maintainer. It’s literally battery maintenance. Resurrecting a 7 year old battery that has chronically discharged to the point where voltage won’t run a single system in the car? That’s not maintenance. No charger in the world can reverse the permanent storage loss at that point. CTEK is nothing more than a programmable low and slow charger. It can’t “clean out” sulfites or magically restore storage in an old battery. |

Desulphation is not proprietary to CTEK. Desulphation only truly occurs during battery MAINTENANCE with pulse conditioning which requires low power, high voltage, high frequency pulses that cause resonance and subsequent split of sulfite crystals back into battery solution. This happens over 4-5 WEEKS, not hours. Again - we are talking about battery maintenance. Not battery resurrection. For a 7 year old chronically undercharged battery with lost storage, desulphation is not magic. It WILL NOT RESTORE LOST STORAGE. I feel like I’m repeating myself here. Do you work for CTEK? If not, you should. |
