Adding homelink
My M3 doesn’t have the homelink rear view mirror. I seen a couple on eBay. Do you think that it’s just a matter of replacing the rear view mirror for one with the garage door opener buttons on it, and then having it coded? Anyone done this before?

I remember doing similar in e46 but Homelink was not in rear view mirror.
I believe all of the Homelink hardware is inside the mirror unit and is plug and play. No VO coding should be needed. I’ve never seen VO code for Homelink. |

Just double check if the plug for the mirror is tucked away behind your headliner first. if so, then it should just be a simple plug & play. like a previous poster stated, all hardware is within the mirror itself and doesn't require coding.

And just in case, here’s a good DIY to get to the wiring behind headliner/light assembly

Have you thought about replacing your garage door motor? They now all pretty much come WIFI enabled which allows you to open/close with their app. Might be easier going this route? just a thought... its only about $200 for a new garage door motor.. |

Or for even cheaper, add Wifi to your existing door opener:

FYI - you can also program your valve controller to the homelink, which is the only reason I use it. Amazing and no need to fiddle with the stalk, bm3, or some key fob.
