The car I want to buy won't pass smog as I am on a JB4 tune and catless. Any way around this easily? New to F80 and appreciate all the help!

Are you in Cali?
Typically seller is responsible for passing smog prior to sale/transfer. Have the seller figure it out.

If not, flash to stock, run defoulers in post cat O2’s, and hope for the best or swap with factory kitty’s.

Do a search. Plenty of opinions on how to pass. Also state dependent.

Good luck

Thank you! Is it easy to flash back to stock? Would I have to remove any parts? I know a place to illegally do it but not sure 😅

For JB4, it’s should be easy since it’s just a piggyback. I don't have experience with JB4 per se but I think you can just flash back to stock maps or remove.

Hopefully others can chime in here but I’d suggest to do some searching on JB4 with google or at their website.

Can’t do much about the cats other than what I’ve already mentioned. If you know someone, I’d just pay the fee since doing a catless swap to pass smog and then swap it again would probably be more costly. Imho

Yeah if you can give me some insight on my other post under my profile I would greatly appreciate it! It explains my situation with buying this car haha

If you need to pass inspection annually I would consider a pair of O2 Simulators so you can flash to stock and the computer will think it has Cats installed.
After you pass inspection you could reconnect the lower O2 sensors and install your flash tune. The reason for connecting sensors again is some tunes don't just disable the CEL but instead account for the different Lambda readings for hi-flows or catless.

I think I'm gonna not buy it. Seems like a good deal but a huge headache and hard to sell after.
