Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S VS Super Sport
Hi folks, my M4 competition is needing new tyres.
I was keen to try the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S instead of the Michelin Pilot Super Sport which I currently have I have the 666 wheels. So I understand I'm looking for 285/30 ZR 20 for the rear. I've been looking online and it looks like they are not available in this size. I only see Pilot Sport Cup 2 and Pilot Super Sport Am I correct? Also is the Cup 2 tyre much worse in the rain than the Pilot Super Sport ? I put winters on come October but living in Scotland even in the summer it gets cold and slippy so I'm thinking the Cup 2 tyres wont work for a daily tyre? Thanks in advance |

I've found the 4S's to be far superior in terms of grip, especially over the PSS. I'm running them presently.
You can get them in the correct sizes. Trouble is they're in short supply with high demand at present, which may be why the correct sizes aren't being listed. I've also had cup2's. Fantastic in dry weather, even more so on a warm/hot day. They actually do get properly sticky. For road use in the wet, they're awful, unless it's also very hot. They also don't last very long. As a starter, being essentially a road-legal track-based tyre, they only come with 5.5mm tread. Personally, I'll never have another set of the Cups. Or PSS's. For me, the 4S is the ideal tyre. Nearly as grippy as the Cup in the dry & better than PSS in the wet.

I'm still on the MPSS as well - looking forward to the 4S as I've heard so many great things about them!

I've just had 4s fitted to my 666m wheels. I went with 275/30 front and 295/30 in the rear and it's perfect. Makes the car look wider without messing around with spacers and no rubbing.
The tyres are amazing and well worth the money. |

Just dropped my car in at BMW for something doing on it. They have 2 lovely M5 Comp's in the showroom..... From the factory with 4S's.... So even more reassuring really.

The Ps4s is the superceding tyre for the PSS.
Had to replace my rear tyres and the dealer offers me the same price for both models. Definitely had to go the newer model ps4s not only for the grip but its also a way quieter tyre! |

My F80 M3 came with continentals on which weren't the best. Switched to PS4S at the first opportunity and they were so much better in wet and dry conditions.
The F82 M4 CS came on Cup2s which are great when dry and warm or on track but more than a little scary when it is cold and wet to the extent of having bought a set of additional rims with winters on to be used from October to April Last edited by JC 73; 07-07-2020 at 12:13 PM.. Reason: Updated to address the Cup2 point. |
